Japanese American Internment: Comparing Primary & Secondary Sources
By Sarah Austin
This lesson will have students analyze and explore secondary and primary sources of information that pertain to the Japanese- American internment experience in the United States during WWII. Students will critically examine the way in which the internment camps were presented to the public through the portrayal of the U.S. government and their use of propaganda, and from the drawings and paintings of the Japanese-American internees who lived in the camps.
The Slide Presentation is full of interactive visuals, discussion topics & hands-on activities that provoke critical thought, & will encourage students to delve deeper into the ‘politics’ of how history is presented.

Act Graphic Novel Comprehension Questions
By Sign with me TOD
The graphic novel, Act by Kayla Miller is great for children ages 8 - 14, as they can relate with the characters. My students enjoyed this book because it is a book about friendship, being mature, supporting your friends, being a good sport, leader, etc., and solving problems with friends and in life. This book does not have chapters, so comprehension questions were separated by pages. Therefore, written comprehension skills are emphasized while reading. At the end of this product, there are a variety of short answer writing prompts to choose from.
The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and a few example sentences are presented in the packet. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet.
