This lesson is over the European Landmarks of the Parthenon in Greece, the Eiffel Tower in France, the Colosseum in Italy, Big Ben in England, Sagrada Familia in Spain, and Brandenburg Gate in Germany. Student will read facts about each landmark and then answer questions about each one. Students will also identify each landmark on a map of Europe.

Students will gain basic knowledge about the Holocaust by completing a worksheet. Afterwards students are asked to find basic knowledge about some of the victims of the Holocaust as they are taken to a website with victim profiles. This Guided Reading document provides a description of the worldwide phenomenon known as the Hallyu Wave. This is a quick way to introduce students to the rise of South Korea’s economy through the export of cultural products such as K-pop or K-dramas between 2000 and 2020. The Assessment questions on the second page ask students to identify key concepts and information that they just read. This helps students to strengthen their close reading skills with a topic with which they might have some superficial knowledge. Most students have heard of BTS or other Korean K-pop bands but this text reading gives more historical background as to how South Korean culture has gained global popularity in the past two decades. Most students learn about the Korean War in their World History or US History classes but rarely about anything else relating to Korea. This supplements their understanding of South Korea with a look at a significant post-war development.

This resource includes:

1. An informative 404-word passage entitled “What is the Hallyu Wave?” The text describes the development of South Korean culture between the years 2000 and 2020.

2. An Assessment with 9 questions. These involve determining key facts, ideas and vocabulary from the passage and interpreting text. The questions align with Common Core Informational Standards

3. Three Enrichment Activities that can further an in-class period or for students to complete on their own. These activities are suitable for group or individual work.

4. An Answer Key with all answers to the questions.

5. A list of sources for bibliographic reference.

I created this resource to use with my own students while watching the Oversimplified American Revolution Part 1.

It includes during-watching questions, comprehension quizzes, a timeline activity, and a word search to help students understand and engage with the content.

This activity is an ALL DONE lesson plan that you mangage and can take as long or as little time as you want it to!

Spark some interest and desire with your students as you ask questions that provoke them to contribute their thoughts and opinions. Display a historical image related to the day's date or a significant event in history.

Instruct students to carefully observe the details in the image without providing any background information.

Individual Inference:

Ask students to individually jot down their inferences about what they think might be happening in the image.
