Do your Spanish students need some help with interpersonal speaking?  Are they struggling to have conversations in Spanish?  Let’s give them some guided support with these partner conversations about daily routines!  Both students will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions as part of a conversation, but with a lot of scaffolding to build confidence.  Guided conversations provide general guidance about how to keep the conversation going without telling students exactly what to say. 

There are 4 guided conversations, so both students will have a chance to ask and answer questions in a conversational way.  Two versions are for Novice High students and 2 versions are for Intermediate students.  

These conversations focus on daily routines in the present time frame.

• Students will work in partners to participate in a guided conversation
• Students will trade roles so both can practice asking questions and answering questions
• Teachers can assign these conversations as practice or as an assessment

French Passé Composé - Être and Avoir - Google Forms Quizzes or Exercises

This bundle of three Google forms quizzes using the passé composé with être and avoir is 30% off.

Each quiz includes the same 50 verbs:

Quiz 1: Students write the past participles of 50 regular and irregular verbs. This is not a conjugation quiz. Short answers require accent marks.

Quiz 2: Students choose which helping verb is needed to form the passé composé of 50 regular and irregular verbs, including some reflexives. Some of the verbs use être all of the time, some use avoir all of the time. However, a few of the verbs use either être or avoir depending on the context. No conjugation is required. Multiple choice options: être, avoir, sometimes être, sometimes avoir.

Quiz 3: Students conjugate in the passé composé choosing which helping verb is needed to form the passé composé of 50 regular and irregular verbs, including some reflexives. Some of the verbs use être all of the time, some use avoir all of the time. However, a few of the verbs use either être or avoir depending on the context. This is a short answer quiz. Students write the helping verb and the past participle, making agreement when necessary.

Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities with the theme of Jobs and Professions to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go!  Each activity has 5 audio links (10 prompts total).  Students listen to the audio and record a logical response.  They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”. 

The teacher script allows you to correct with ease or even record your own voice if you choose. There are lots of notes and ideas for teachers so you know just how to use this activity! Finally, students can self-assess with the included rubric.  The 2 activities are created with different levels of complexity, so you can differentiate for different levels amongst your students, or use them at different points in your unit!

Are your Spanish students preparing to take a test for the Seal of Biliteracy? Here are 15 interpersonal listening/speaking prompts designed to help them succeed on the AAPPL Test.   Build speaking proficiency by allowing students to listen to the recorded prompts and record their own responses.

This activity is designed to mimic the AAPPL test in that there are multiple prompts about lots of subjects.  The prompts will ask students to respond with their own information, or to ask questions.  The prompts become more complex as they go, and move between present and past tenses primarily.

The prompts are recorded for you, but the teacher script is also provided in case you want to record your own voice or set this activity up in language lab software.  If you don’t have a language lab, this activity is easy to use as a whole class or to post on your learning platform.  

Also included are teacher instructions and options for how to use this resource, hints and strategies about this portion of the AAPPL test, student self-assessment rubric and a teacher rubric!

Do your Spanish students need some help with interpersonal speaking?  Are they struggling to have conversations in Spanish?  Let’s give them some guided support with these guided partner conversations!  Both students will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions as part of a conversation, but with a lot of scaffolding to build confidence.

There are 4 guided conversations, so both students will have a chance to ask and answer questions in a conversational way.  

These conversations focus on future plans in the future time frame.  They can work with the immediate future (ir + a + infinitive) or with the simple future (will). *The bonus 3rd and 4th conversations features a challenge: using the future with another time frame. Conversation 3 integrates present tense and Conversation 4 adds past tense.

• Spanish students in year 2 and up (Intermediate Low +)

• Students will work in partners to participate in a guided conversation
• Students will both practice asking questions and answering questions
