Not only are these geography warm-up activity bell ringers for the beginning of class great transitions to start class and get students mentally ready for class, but it's also a great way to work in time for state test prep activities without all the extra work**.** Many of the social studies test questions require students to read, examine, and analyze maps, charts, graphs, etc. I have used bell ringers for years and I have seen an increase in students' abilities to read maps, graphs, and charts. It's worth your time and theirs!

This fifth set of bell ringers asks students to use their class atlases to read maps, graphs, and charts such as map projections, climate maps, time zone maps, population pyramids, and more. Although they are specified for the first six weeks, they can be used at any time throughout the year. The atlas used for reference is the Rand McNally 6th Edition found on Amazon for $15 found here. But many atlases can be used and are more affordable here. If you use another atlas, simply modify each slide to reference the map or page in the atlas you are using. The questions can remain the same.

Many educators struggle with the task of figuring out how to start class each day or how to transition from concept to concept. Due to the nature of switching class to class, students often struggle to mentally prepare to transition to a different subject. A popular solution to these problems is the idea of the beginning of the class warm-up bellringers. These start-of-class activities benefit both students and teachers.

A bell ringer, often referred to as a warm-up activity or a do-now, is a short exercise or prompt given to students at the beginning of class. These activities are designed to capture students' attention, activate prior knowledge, and set the tone for the rest of the lesson.

I normally use this assignment during my Ancient History unit on early humans as a way to help students understand the hardship of surviving without modern technology. Really this assignment is a plug and play that you can use in many different class periods. Thinking tactically about survival never goes out of style, and students are always engaged during this assignment. I've also used it as a last minute sub plan and have never gotten a bad note!

This is a one page printable this or that / ceci ou cela activity with a GRANDES VILLES DU MONDE theme. There are 12 options (24 cities), and students circle their preferences. With more than 750 million inhabitants, Europe is the third most populated continent in the world while being the second smallest, after Australia. It is largely located in the Eastern Hemisphere and all of it is in the Northern Hemisphere.

Africa and Asia share the continent of Europe, which is referred to as Afro-Eurasia. Approximately 10.53 million square kilometers (4.06 million square miles) make up the continent of Europe. The Atlantic Ocean borders Europe to the west, and the Arctic Ocean borders Europe to the north. The Mediterranean Sea lies to the south, while the Black Sea, Caspian Sea, and Ural Mountains form its eastern borders.

In this no prep lesson, Geographical Scavenger Hunt to identify continents, oceans, seas, mountains ranges, bays, gulfs, rivers, countries, latitude & longitude lines on world map and is suitable for students for a back to school tasks to to test and revise their geographical information.

Geographical Map Labelling Challenge

Objective: To enhance students' knowledge of the world's geography by identifying and naming various geographical features using a numbered world map.

Task:

Using the numbers as references, students must identify and label the following:

- Continents: All the continents marked on the map.

- Oceans: All the major oceans indicated.

- Rivers: Major rivers that are numbered.

- Mountain Ranges: Identify the mountain ranges marked on the map.

- Bays and Gulfs: Label the bays and gulfs indicated.

- Lines of Latitude & Longitude: Identify and label the major lines of latitude (e.g., Equator, Tropics) and longitude (e.g., Prime Meridian).

- Countries: Label as many countries as possible that are numbered on the map.

I like starting with them working singly to answer as many as they can, then moving on working in groups. Finally using an atlas to complete the sheet. Or you can use it as an ongoing start/end of lesson task for the first/last 5 minutes. Student love the challenge.

- Ask students to research and write a brief description of a geographical feature they found challenging to identify.

- Organize a group discussion where students can share interesting facts about a particular country or geographical feature they labeled.

- Encourage students to create a visual presentation or poster showcasing a specific continent and its unique geographical features.

This task promotes active learning as students engage with the map, utilize their geographical knowledge, and collaborate with peers to identify and label the world's major features.

French Geography Game - This or That Activity - Les Villes de France

This is a one page printable this or that / ceci ou cela activity with a VILLES DE FRANCE theme. There are 12 options (24 cities), and students circle their preferences. The directions encourage them to explain POURQUOI to spark conversations about their choices. Geography skills will definitely be tested, and students will learn a lot! This product includes vocabulary, notes, and review for students that are learning about volcanoes.

Vocabulary words that are emphasized in this packet include: volcanoes, magma, crater, ash cloud, magma chamber, layers of ash, vent, lava flow, active volcanoes, extinct volcanoes, dormant volcanoes, Earth's crust, tectonic plates, lithosphere, divergent boundaries, transform boundaries, convergent boundaries, Mount St. Helens, and Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI).

This product on volcanoes covers what a mountain is, how magma comes up to the surface which causes volcanoes to form and erupt, explosive volcanic eruptions compared to effusive volcanic eruptions, students will look at a diagram of a volcano and will label the parts of the volcano using the key, students will learn where volcanoes are found and the three different types of volcanoes - active, extinct, and dormant. Where magma volcanoes form, how pieces of the Earth's surface move slowly, what is the lithosphere and where it is located, where tectonic plates are located in the structure of the Earth, tectonic plates and the three boundaries and how they are different from one another - divergent, transform, and convergent boundaries, students will also learn about Mount St. Helens eruption on May 18th, 1980, students will also learn safety tips and how to prepare for a volcanic eruption, students will analyze two charts: how volcanoes are measured using the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) and some volcanic eruptions in the 21st century, and students will choose a volcano to research and will answer questions after conducting research about a volcano in the packet provided at the end of the product.

Throughout the product, students will answer comprehension questions, true/false questions, multiple choice questions, will label diagrams to ensure comprehension as they are learning about volcanoes.
