$5 - $10 12th Grade Independent Work Packet

This is a fun seasonal Christmas and Winter Holiday geography activity that students will find engaging and fun!

This is a great lesson for the week before Winter/Holiday Break. Students will take a Christmas journey around the world! If you need an activity for 1-2 days, this lesson is easy to modify to the time limitations you may have. Not only will they have fun, but they will be learning to work together to complete the tasks! Every moment is a teaching moment.

This lesson takes students on a journey using Journey Cards to cities and towns around the world that have Christmas names. Students will work in teams and will use Google Earth Online to explore each location on the Journey Cards as well as practice plotting the absolute location of each location. Students will look at the location, the physical characteristics, and fun facts. Every moment is a teaching moment, even those days before the holiday break.

OBJECTIVES:

(1) The learner will plot the coordinates of towns with Christmas names on a coordinate plot map using latitude and longitude (Absolute Location).

(2) The learner will explore cities and towns around the world with Christmas and winter-themed names using Google Earth.
(3) The learner will identify the continent, hemisphere, physical features, and interesting physical or cultural facts related to each city or town.
(3) The learner will evaluate and compare the towns and cities' location, environment, and living conditions to determine where they would most and less likely live.

As our Deaf/hard of hearing/ELL students are completing written assignments, little words/parts of speech that are commonly confused when writing with words such as there, their, and they're. My students are confusing them for each other continuously. The words there, their, and they're are emphasized in this product. Students will determine if there, their, and they're belong in each sentence, circle the correct use of the word there, their, and they're in sentences, write sentences using there, their, and they're when looking at different picture scenarios, and will write there, their, or they're to complete each sentence. When I started my procedure of historical enquiry unit each year, I wanted to introduce the all three skills. I was looking for a way to tell students about what the study of historical involves, how it is structured. But...I needed a way to explicitly teach the key skills concept that was engaging and efficient. When I just talked AT students, they looked disinterested.

Well if you know how this feels, this task is for you.

That's why I created this story, source, and scholarship resource. They enjoyed the examples and questions that encouraged the collaborative sharing of their ideas as they worked through the task. I could see that every student was enjoying the lesson, participating in the discussions, and understanding the concepts. It became a life saver.

It is a great introduction to the complexity that is involved in small events in history; easy, interactive, and engaging. I've found that it helps explicitly outline all the skills the students need to develop.

The task will cover all the content for a good, detailed understanding of the event or question. It is an excellent resources for absent students who need to covered missed work as it is a self contained, no-prep lesson.

Learn and practice Even and Odd Functions with this complete lesson. In this print and go lesson, you can print all 7 pages out and give it out as a packet to start the topic. Have them start off completing the word search with vocabulary associated with even and odd functions. Go through the guided notes with the even and odd functions examples with them (or they can do it alone with the guidance of the notes). Then have them work with a partner to complete the partner problems. After that they will complete the independent practice to see what they understand on their own. You can assign them the HW for the night. The next day they can summarize what they learned, reflect on what was challenging and what was not and then rate themselves on a scale of 1-4 to self assess how well they understood even and odd functions.

Have your students explore the Protest Movements of the 1960’s by becoming an author of a textbook; whose job is to research, write, and creatively craft a chapter that will both inform and engage its readers regarding a protest movement of this era of time. Using Google Slides, students will be assigned one of the six following protest movements from which to research and create their chapter on:

• The United Farm Workers (UFW)
• The Anti-Vietnam War movement
• The Women’s movement
• The Gay Rights movement
• The Environmental movement
• The American Indian movement (AIM)

Using an inquiry based approach, the accompanied Slide Presentation will first have students explore the cause and effect relationship of how these protest movements came to exist in America during this period of time. The latter portion of the presentation will provide students with an overview of the chapter project with student examples. The final activity will involve students sharing their chapter with their classmates, and completing a Venn Diagram that will serve to critically compare the six different protest movements.

This lesson/project easily lends itself to having a sub take over as well!

10. Article Practice: Reinforce grammar basics through organizing nouns by gender.

11. Code Breaker: Decoding the vocabulary is like solving a puzzle. It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills as learners work to match the symbols to the correct letters to form vocabulary while providing ongoing review and reinforcement.
