TEN SESSIONS INCLUDE:

Below are the specific details for each individual session which can be used in isolation or as a comprehensive anger management curriculum.

1.Session 1: Welcome & Introduction to the Group In this session, students are introduced to the purpose of the group, setting the stage for a journey of self-discovery and growth. Expectations for the sessions ahead are discussed, creating a sense of belonging.

2.Session 2: What is Impulse Control? Students delve into the concept of impulse control, understanding why it's important and how it can positively impact their lives. This session lays the groundwork for the entire program.

3.Session 3: Our Remote Control - Pause/Think/Act Through interactive activities, participants learn the power of pausing before reacting impulsively. They explore the metaphor of a remote control for self-control and practice the essential skills of pausing, thinking, and acting mindfully.

4.Session 4: Coping Skills and Strategies Students are introduced to a toolkit of coping skills and strategies that empower them to navigate moments of impulsivity. These practical techniques equip participants to better handle challenging situations.

5.Session 5: Perspective Taking This session helps students develop empathy and perspective-taking abilities. Through activities and discussions, they learn to see situations from different viewpoints, enhancing their interpersonal skills.

6.Session 6: Choices and Consequences Participants explore the connection between choices and consequences, discovering that every action has an outcome. They gain insight into how making thoughtful choices can lead to positive results.

7.Session 7: Conflict Resolution In this interactive session, students learn constructive ways to resolve conflicts and disagreements. They practice communication skills that promote peaceful resolutions.

8.Session 8: Problem Solving Effective problem-solving techniques are introduced, empowering participants to address impulse-provoking issues in a constructive manner. The session emphasizes the importance of finding solutions to problems.

9.Session 9: In and Out of Your Control Students explore the concept of control and responsibility in impulse control. They gain clarity on what they can control versus what is beyond their control, helping them make informed decisions.

10.Session 10: Termination and Review In the final session, students reflect on their journey through the "Let's Pause" curriculum. They review key concepts and skills acquired, celebrating their growth and setting goals for continued impulse control success.

Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Mandala Design artwork was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I did a demo and taught the class how to use a ruler and a yardstick. Measurements and Math was a strong focus of the lesson. Next, students spent the rest of the first lesson brainstorming an idea for a stencil (¼ of their full Mandala Design. I taught the students how to rotate their stencil to get a Radial Design. Students started on their Final Copy paper and outlined their drawing in sharpie marker. We used large windows to trace our stencils on the final. Students used colored pencils, colored sharpies, or watercolor paint to color their Mandala Design. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

I am fortunate to have several textbook resources including Temas, AP Spanish Preparing for the Language and Culture Examination and Avance.   In these lesson plans I make use of these textbooks for 3 out of 58+ activities.  But in the few cases that I’ve used these resources in the lesson plans, I have included links to alternatives.  However, especially after teaching on-line for a year, I have moved away from relying on textbooks and I create most of the activities myself. This makes these lesson plans very versatile and usable for anyone!  For teachers who need or like to teach digitally, all of the activities in this bundle can be assigned via Google Classroom or other learning management system. And almost every activity is also printable for teachers and students who prefer paper copies.  Best of all, once you have these activities in your Google Drive, you can edit and adapt anything to suit your needs!

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture® since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s. 

I start the year with a set of lesson plans designed to last one week.  It is linked below.  We do all the paper-passing, signing up for different apps and classrooms, and become comfortable with the course and our classmates.  We also present our summer homework, also linked below.  Next I teach Unit 1: Families in Different Societies. This unit (Unit 4) starts as if all of the beginning of the year “housekeeping” has been done already and logically follows units 1, 2 and 3 where I present all the different tasks of the AP® Spanish Exam.   The previous unit plans are also linked below.  AP®teachers are allowed to teach the units in any order they would like, but I recommend that if you plan to use this series of lesson plans, that you go in order. I choose to introduce the AP® test open-ended tasks over time so that students are not overwhelmed, though it is not a necessity if you have your own way of preparing students for the AP® Exam..  By unit 3, they will have learned the purpose, rules and resources for all of the tasks and can spend the last 3 units practicing them some more.

• Homework Packets with Poems (5-6 Poems per Packet): The 12 homework packets contain a total of 71 poems by a diverse range of award-winning poets such as William Shakespeare, John Keats, Christina Rossetti, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Robert Hayden, Theodore Roethke, Maya Angelou, Audre Lorde, Mary Oliver, Gary Soto, Li-Young Lee, Ada Limón, Elizabeth Acevedo, and others. The poems are collected into ten reading packets that focus on prominent literary devices and themes: 1) poems using sensory imagery, 2) poems using figurative language, 3) love poems, 4) poems on ethical dilemmas, 5) poems on complex parent-child dynamics, and 6) poems on cultural identity. Because teenagers have a lot to say about these themes, the poems will set the stage for your class to have fascinating and profoundly productive discussions!! (75 pages)

• Literary Devices Glossary: A glossary with definitions and examples of the various types of figurative language, imagery, stanzas, and syntactic devices. Many teachers already have a glossary of literary devices, but I'm providing this in case you need one. (2 pages)

• Literary Devices Quizzes: A total of ten quizzes, each with 10 questions about a wide range of literary devices: metaphor, personification, symbolism, imagery, alliteration, etc. Open each class with a quiz to assess whether your students can accurately identify the literary devices used in the poems from the homework packets. Answer keys included. (24 pages).

• Discussion Questions: This bundle features a list of discussion questions for the first poem in each of the homework packets. The discussion questions will ensure that every class discussion starts on a productive foot. Every discussion question is grounded in concrete textual details and challenges students to arrive at lucid interpretive insights! The questions lend themselves to a range of different pedagogical uses: 1) to focus students’ thinking prior to beginning a discussion, 2) to prompt in-class writing, 3) to assign written reflections for homework, etc. Guaranteed to elicit student engagement and foster deep thinking! • Quick Writes: The quick writes give students an opportunity to capture and refine the best ideas generated in the discussion. Quick writes can also help reticent students to gather their thoughts so they'll feel ready and eager to contribute. (24 pages)

• Analytical Writing Assignment: Challenge students to take their interpretations one step further by writing an analytical paper on a poem of their choice. The assignment sheet contains detailed instructions for how to generate a formalist analysis of a poem (analyzing how the poem's formal features contribute to its meaning). This kind of formalist analysis is exactly what students are asked to generate on the AP Literature exam! Sample paper included. (15 pages)

"Mindfully Me" is a comprehensive and engaging 7-week small group counseling curriculum designed for High School students and is thoughtfully aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards.

This curriculum focuses on introducing mindfulness techniques and empowering students to enhance their social and emotional well-being. It offers a safe and supportive environment for students to explore their emotions, develop self-awareness, and acquire practical mindfulness skills.
