“Let’s Pause" Impulse Control Curriculum
"Let's Pause" is a comprehensive research based impulse control curriculum designed specifically for elementary school students aged 5-11.
This interactive program is thoughtfully developed to empower participants with essential skills for managing impulses, making thoughtful choices, and building emotional regulation. "Let's Pause" is a structured and nurturing curriculum where young learners can explore the world of impulse control through interactive activities and engaging discussions in a small group setting. Comprising of 10 sessions, each session is designed to cater to the unique needs and developmental stages of elementary school students.

1.Session 1: Welcome & Introduction to the Group In this session, students are introduced to the purpose of the group, setting the stage for a journey of self-discovery and growth. Expectations for the sessions ahead are discussed, creating a sense of belonging.
2.Session 2: What is Impulse Control? Students delve into the concept of impulse control, understanding why it's important and how it can positively impact their lives. This session lays the groundwork for the entire program.
3.Session 3: Our Remote Control - Pause/Think/Act Through interactive activities, participants learn the power of pausing before reacting impulsively. They explore the metaphor of a remote control for self-control and practice the essential skills of pausing, thinking, and acting mindfully.
4.Session 4: Coping with Feelings Students are introduced to a toolkit of coping skills and strategies that empower them to navigate moments of impulsivity. These practical techniques equip participants to better handle challenging situations.
5.Session 5: Seeing Others' Views This session helps students develop empathy and perspective-taking abilities. Through activities and discussions, they learn to see situations from different viewpoints, enhancing their interpersonal skills.
6.Session 6: Choices and Consequences Participants explore the connection between choices and consequences, discovering that every action has an outcome. They gain insight into how making thoughtful choices can lead to positive results.
7.Session 7: Dealing with Conflicts In this interactive session, students learn constructive ways to resolve conflicts and disagreements. They practice communication skills that promote peaceful resolutions.
8.Session 8: Small, Medium and Big Problems differentiate between different levels of problems and explore appropriate ways to respond to each type. Through engaging activities and discussions, participants will develop essential impulse control skills and strategies to navigate various situations effectively.
9.Session 9: In and Out of Your Control Students explore the concept of control and responsibility in impulse control. They gain clarity on what they can control versus what is beyond their control, helping them make informed decisions.
10.Session 10: Termination and Review In the final session, students reflect on their journey through the "Let's Pause" curriculum. They review key concepts and skills acquired, celebrating their growth and setting goals for continued impulse control success.

2.Exploring Grief: Delving into the concept of grief, this session utilizes a grief collage reflection, allowing students to visually express and share their unique experiences, promoting understanding and empathy.
3.Stages of Grief: Participants are introduced to the fluid nature of the stages of grief, understanding its complexities. Interactive activities deepen comprehension and facilitate meaningful group discussions.
4.Exploring Emotions: Shifting the focus to identifying and managing emotions associated with grief, this session includes engaging activities such as emotion charades and discussion circles, enhancing emotional literacy and communication skills.
5.Caring for Yourself: Emphasizing the importance of self-care in the grieving process, this session equips students with strategies for emotional well-being. Activities include creating a personalized self-care toolbox and practicing mindfulness exercises.
6.My Grief Suitcase: Students examine their personal grief experiences and resilience, symbolically represented in a "Grief Suitcase." This reflective session promotes self-awareness and understanding of individual coping mechanisms.
7.My Memory Jar: Crafting a Memory Jar becomes a poignant activity to honor positive memories and celebrate the lives of loved ones. Personal reflections are incorporated into this creative and meaningful exercise.
8.Termination and Review: The concluding session focuses on group reflection, expressing gratitude, and discussing future support. Students engage in activities that encourage thoughtful reflection on the group journey, fostering a sense of closure and individual goal-setting.

Through thoughtful discussions and interactive activities, participants explore their anger triggers, gaining valuable insights into what makes them angry and how they respond to it.
2.Session 2: Rainbow Emotional Regulation - In the second session, children delve into the concept of emotional regulation using the metaphor of a rainbow. They learn to recognize various emotional states, understand what these emotions look and feel like, and explore how to achieve emotional balance through engaging and interactive activities.
3.Session 3: Red and Green Choice Behavior Choices - Session 3 centers on helping children distinguish between "red" (unhelpful) and "green" (helpful) behavior choices when they experience anger. Through interactive games and exercises, participants reinforce the importance of making constructive choices in dealing with their anger.
4.Session 4: Helping and Hurting Hands (Physical Aggression) - The fourth session introduces the concept of helping and hurting hands, focusing on addressing physical aggression. Children engage in interactive activities designed to explore alternatives to physical aggression and learn how to express their anger safely.
5.Session 5: Dragon Breaths (Deep Breathing) - In Session 5, deep breathing is presented as an effective coping strategy for anger management. Emotions are not good or bad. Some emotions may be scary and overwhelming especially when they are intense. But learning how to accept and process your emotions take practice and with more practice, the more natural it becomes.

This lesson on honesty and lying is ideal for your elementary school students. Of course, at times, our children tell lies on purpose. But, sometimes, children do not realize they are lying because they have not been taught the differences between the various types of lies. Teach all about the types of lying and why it can be harmful with this unique and engaging activity.
“Types of Lies Town” is an interactive activity used to introduce students to the six types of lies. This activity allows children a safe and structured way to learn about the negative consequences of lying and a chance to reflect on their own behaviors and habits.
Students will “take a tour” of the town and visit six different streets to learn the definitions, stories, and examples of the various types of lies.
