Deaf Education: Writing a Story about Hearing Loss/Deafness

In this product, the differences and similarities between writing a realistic fiction story and a nonfiction story are shared so students can decide how they want to write their story about hearing loss or deafness. They can write a realistic fiction story if they want to write about events that did not happen, but could have, or they could write a nonfiction story about their own personal experiences. Students will then pick which genre they want to use to write their story about hearing loss or deafness. Students can follow the example provided that goes through the writing process which shows the following: picking a genre, coming up with two possible story ideas their story could be about, deciding on one of the story ideas, adding more details onto their story idea, writing a rough draft, editing, and writing a final draft if required.

Writing a fairy tale can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This product provides students with the opportunity to use creativity while writing their fairy tale and share it with their peers!
This product includes information to share with your students about what a fairy tale is, why do we write a fairy tale, challenges characters may face in fairy tales, who could be your audience when writing a fairy tale, rules to follow when writing a fairy tale, possible options students can choose to publish their fable, using a strong opening compared to a weak opening in the first paragraph of your fairy tale, tips that are useful to write a great fairy tale, a layout of the fairy tale is provided, an example of a fairy tale is included in this product that includes an idea template, planning the fairy tale with more in depth ideas, and an example of a fairy tale rough draft is included in this product.
After the example is read, students can answer 6 comprehension questions about the fairy tale. Students will are also provided with a template that includes an area for 3 fairy tale ideas, and once they choose their fairy tale, they can add onto their fairy tale using the idea chart. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.

Rules to follow when writing a realistic fiction are included in this product and an example of a weak and strong story opening is shared. This product includes a realistic fiction story example that includes a graphic organizer filled with story ideas, a chart that requires the title, characters, setting, and plot of the realistic fiction story, and a realistic fiction story example. At the end of the product, a template to help students come up with possible story ideas, write about the characters, setting, and plot of a story, and space to write a rough draft as well as a final draft are included.

When they are done they can share it with their peers! This product includes information to share with your students about what a graphic novel is, why do we write a graphic novel, rules to follow when writing a graphic novel, the parts of a graphic novel that are necessary to include along with examples. This product includes an example showing the process that is used to write a graphic novel and the steps that are taken and what to include in a graphic novel so that it includes a beginning, middle and end. On the last few pages of the product, a template is included to help students come up with possible graphic novel ideas, a checklist to ensure that they have included all parts necessary to complete their graphic novel, and a reference sheet.

Writing an animal research report can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to learn about an animal that interests them and share it with their peers! This packet includes information to share with your students about what an animal research report is, topic ideas, why an animal research report is written, what is shared in an animal research report, who the audience will be, how the completed animal research report will be published, rules to follow when writing an animal research report, where to locate information and the possible sources one could find when completing an animal research report, opening paragraph tips to hook the reader, tips that make a great animal research report, and an idea that shows the structure of an animal research report are included in this product
An example of three possible writing topics, a completed KWL chart, and a brainstorming chart that will serve as a guide when writing the rough draft of the animal research report are included in this product. An example of a rough draft on giant pandas, and an example of the sources that were used to write this animal research report are also provided to help support students and serve as a guide to help them when writing their own rough draft. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist, so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.
Students can also complete the questions that are included with this product about their animal, such as what the name of you animal?, where does your animal eat?, how much does your animal weigh? Etc. Students will also be required to draw a picture of their animal. Using this template may be better to use with students who require the animal research report to be adapted.

The Berenstain Bears Don't Pollute Anymore Comprehension Questions product is useful for students that read the book. The questions are placed in order with the book. Students can answer these questions as the book is read or after they have finished reading the book or listening to the book. While reading this book and answering these questions, students will learn about pollution, endangered animals, surviving in our environment, importance of clean air, water, and healthy soil to grow food, planting trees when trees are cut down, ecology, conservation, recycling, reducing pollution in your community, things to recycle, and how to help your environment. In this packet, students can also complete a mini endangered animal report where they will be required to chose an endangered animal from the list provided and answer questions about that animal, such as where it lives (habitat), what it eats, how long it lives for, interesting facts about that animal, etc. Students can answer the short answer questions, yes/no questions, multiple choice questions, and vocabulary/picture labeling questions as the book is read to them, as they read the book independently or they can use the text for lookbacks once the book is finished. Writing a fable can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to use creativity while writing their fable and share it with their peers!
This product includes information to share with your students about what a fable is, why we write a fable, possible lessons that can be learned when writing a fable, who a fable is written for, possible options students can choose to publish their fable, rules to follow when writing a fable, using a strong opening compared to a weak opening in the first paragraph of your fable, tips that are useful to write a great fable, the layout of the fable is provided, an example of a fable is included in this product that includes an idea template, planning the fable with more in depth ideas, and an example of a fable rough draft is included in this product. After the example fable is read, students can answer 4 comprehension questions about the fable. Students will are also provided with a template that includes an area for 3 fable ideas, and once they choose their fable, they can add onto their fable using the idea chart. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.

As our students are completing written assignments, using quotation marks in dialogue can be confusing. Students need to remember to use a comma before or after a quote, a capital letter when a statement is made by a character, descriptive tags, and quotation marks. Students can get easily confused when learning how to show dialogue between characters when they are having a conversation. In this product, students review why quotation marks are used in dialogue, complete sentences to show dialogue (adding in commas and quotation marks), make corrections to sentences by adding missing commas or quotation marks, make up sentences to show dialogue based on picture scenarios, make up sentences without picture scenarios that include dialogue, and students also have the opportunity to write a short story that include at least 5 communication exchanges between characters that include capitalization, commas, quotation marks, and descriptive tags.

Looking for an activity to help students work on decoding and encoding simultaneously? Short i Flip, Tap, Write, Build, Use resource helps students practice just that.
How? Students flip a picture card over, these are focused on a specific phonics pattern, to get their word. Next students work on tapping out the sound. They can use the Elkonin boxes or the guide dots to help track the sounds tapped. After they will build the words by writing a letter for each sound made and using letter tiles(that are provided, so no need to search or organize tiles, just print, cut, and use). Lastly, the student uses the word to create a sentence.
This activity makes for a great center, small group work, independent practice, and even homework.
Need a way to hold them accountable?
No worries, there is a recording sheet available where students can record a few of their flips. All they have to do is write the word and the sentence on the sheet. This gives you a glimpse into their understanding and insures that they are indeed working during center, small group, and independent work time.

Writing an informational paragraph is an important writing project that gives students time to conduct research on a specific topic that is of interest to them. It sets the foundation for having students write an informational essay. Once they are finished with their masterpiece, they can share it with their friends and family members. This packet includes information to share with your students about what informational writing is, why we complete informational writing tasks, what steps to follow when writing the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and conclusion, how to make our writing flow so that it makes sense to the reader, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to complete an informational paragraph. Using this guide, students will write and complete a simple or complex informational paragraph.
