This Lesson Plan or Scope and Sequence was created for special education or life skills classes. Each lesson has three levels that are vertically aligned to provide access for ALL students to the standards, the leveled activities are for guided or independent practice. The units are set up in two-week increments and include two whole group lessons with links to videos or songs that align with the unit of study. Students will learn about positive peer pressure and negative peer pressure, what they are, and examples of each, secondhand smoke, smokeless tobacco, why you should avoid tobacco, why some people smoke, short-term effects of tobacco - addiction, breathing problems, nicotine and tar stains, odor, cost, fires and burns, and long-term effects of tobacco - heart disease, lung disease, stomach ulcers, wrinkles, and gums/teeth, quitting tobacco use, secondhand smoke and the causes from it, reasons to resist smoking and the importance of following those reasons, resistance skills, review of vocabulary words, and being a health advocate and the importance of doing that.

Rocks and Minerals Adapted Notes and Review

In this product, rocks and minerals are reviewed. The three kinds of rocks - sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks are reviewed. Students will learn how each rock is formed, where minerals are found, the percentage of igneous rock that makes up the Earth's crust, examples of each type of rock are provided, how sedimentary rocks form, sediments that are found in our environment that make up sedimentary rocks, students will examine layers in rock and will answer comprehension questions when looking at the rock, the percentage of rock that covers the Earth's land, how weathering, transportation, precipitation, erosion, and deposition lead to the creation of sedimentary rocks and what each of these are. How sediment is carried is also reviewed, a list of sediments that make up sedimentary rock are presented, and students will also be provided with a chart showing the different layers of sediment in the ground, students will also see a chart that shows how sedimentary rocks are formed, how metamorphic rocks are made, where morph and meta come from, how rocks change, and a diagram of the rock cycle is also presented. Students will be required to label the rock cycle in this product as well. At the end of this product, students will complete a multiple choice and short answer review.
Throughout the product, students will answer short answer comprehension questions to ensure comprehension after reviewing notes.

This product on the traits of living things includes the following: hereditary, acquired traits and how they differ from each other, DNA - what it stands for, what it is, reproduction, molecules, chromosomes, how many chromosomes are in different species, including people, chromatids and where they are located in a cell, genes, nucleotides, parts of nucleotides, four nitrogen bases, sides of the ladder on a strand of DNA, mutagens - physical, chemical, and biological mutagens and how they differ from each other, mutagens and examples of those and their description, mutations, traits of living things - students will collect data and will be required to create a pie chart or a bar graph based on the data they collected, students will also answer comprehension questions based on the data that they collected, students will also learn about environmental, learned, and manipulated traits. can also be used as adapted notes for students who need more support.
This product also requires students to answer comprehension questions using short answer, fill in the blanks, and multiple choice questions on what was reviewed in the notes. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a pie chart and bar graph in this product.

This product on earthquakes covers how Earth's surface changes, the structure of the Earth and how earthquakes happen due to changes/movements in the crust, three different faults - normal, reverse, and strike-slip faults, how the Earth's crust moves, measuring earthquakes with seismographs, how earthquakes strengths are reported, the Richter magnitude scale that shows the effects of earthquakes, a chart showing the strongest earthquakes of the 20th and 21st century and questions are asked based on data from those charts, and students will research one of the earthquakes and locate information about it in the library or on the computer.
