Vocabulary Builder Fill in the Blanks worksheets Level 2

By Peter D

Note to Teachers

This set of worksheets consists of 112 pages of Fill in the Blanks exercises. Each page has at least ten words or phrases for students to fill in the blanks in the given sentences.

Learning new vocabulary is an important part of language development. Instead of simply memorizing vocabulary lists, it is beneficial to learn new vocabulary words in some kind of meaningful context.

Fill in the Blanks exercises are effective at helping students develop their language skills in numerous ways. Each vocabulary word must be placed in the blank based on meaning of the sentence. This task challenges students to first understand the meaning of the sentence and then select the appropriate word. It is an effective task for developing cognitive skills as well as general language skills.

The vocabulary words in these exercise pages were selected from various stories that we have studied. These words are found quite commonly in written texts so it is useful for students to acquire these vocabulary words.

If students are unfamiliar with some of these words, then students are encouraged to use a dictionary or work together in small groups.

I have found that students enjoy these types of activities and that students can develop various useful skills related to language development.

Levels: There are four sets of vocabulary builder worksheets divided into four levels. The approximate range of grades for each level is listed below.

Please note that there is an answer key included at the end of the PDF file.

Vocabulary Worksheets:

Vocabulary Builder Level 1: Grades 1-4

Vocabulary Builder Level 2: Grades 3-6

Vocabulary Builder Level 3: Grades 5-8

Vocabulary Builder Level 4: Grades 7-10 (under construction)

Collage Art: Pizza-theme.

By Art Shack by JB

This creative Pizza Collage: Art Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this PDF file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on the big screen. For this assignment, I asked students to make a Pizza Collage of their favorite type of pizza. Lots of students love just a Cheese Pizza, but when they see all the types of delicious paper toppings they can add to their special pizza, they can’t wait. Students learned tracing, cutting, gluing, and placing (overlapping) skills during this 2-Day Art Unit. Students shared who they were making the special pizza for and their favorite pizza toppings. I love hanging these out on the gallery ceilings. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy!

God Chooses Samuel, I Samuel 2, 1-5 grade, Sunday School, Children's Church, VBS

By Cheryl Bennett

Dive into the rich lessons of I Samuel 2 with this resource designed for 1st-5th graders. With a blend of storytelling, interactive activities, and hands-on learning, this lesson plan is perfect for teaching in a variety of settings, including VBS, Homeschool, Children's Church, Children’s Bible Study, and Sunday School.

This resource helps children understand key biblical principles through the stories of Hannah’s prayer and the warnings to Eli’s sons.

Included in This Resource:

  • Story Pages:

  • Color Version: Full-color story pages designed for 1st-5th graders. These pages can be laminated and kept in a binder for repeated use. For convenience, print on both sides to save paper.

  • Black and White Version: These story pages can double as coloring pages or you can print just the title page for additional creative activities.

  • Storyboard Options:

  • Available in both color and black and white, these storyboards help students visually follow along with the narrative. Choose the format that best suits your teaching needs.

  • Show the Story Activity Plan:

  • An interactive storytelling activity that encourages students to participate by becoming part of the story. This shortened version of the story helps maintain attention and reinforces key points.

  • Visuals for Show the Story:

  • A selection of visuals, available in both color and black and white, to be used with the “Show the Story” activity. Tailor your choices based on the age and needs of your students.

  • Review Cards:

  • These visuals can also serve as review cards. Print and cut out the cards for a hands-on recap of the story. Students can sequence the images to retell the story, either orally or in writing, making this an excellent summarization tool.

Students will learn about the sins committed in the passage and how they relate to the Ten Commandments, emphasizing our need for Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, who took our punishment and rose again.

Why This Lesson Works:

  • Age-Appropriate Content: The lesson is specifically tailored for 1st-5th graders, ensuring the material is both engaging and understandable.
  • Elevated Storytelling: This version of the story is adapted for 1st-5th graders, offering a more in-depth exploration compared to the PreK-Kindergarten version.

July Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Passages

By Basic Biz Teaching

This resource will provide your second grade, third grade, and fourth grade students with 30 nonfiction reading passages about holidays in the month of July. Use these no-prep reading comprehension passages to have your students reading about various engaging topics.

It seems like every day is National (insert cool thing here) Day. I decided to look into these holidays to bring some fun and excitement back to informational passages. The best part about these units though... they are EASILY enrichable! For example, watch Donald Duck cartoons on Donald Duck Day, celebrate fathers on Father's Day, or get students to bring their bikes to school for Bicycle Day!

My class has had such a fun time reading these passages and celebrating something each day.

In this unit, you will be given 33 informational passages with text dependent questions requiring short answer responses.

Please consider that not every day has a holiday that is school appropriate. Not every holiday remains on the same day each year.

All passages are informational based, usually with a history on the day and whatever is being celebrated. Passages have 4-6 questions with a few skills being met:

  • asking and answering questions
  • main idea
  • key details
  • making connections
  • context clues
  • author's POV vs reader's POV

Similar format throughout the unit so students get familiar with text structure and routine quickly. This document has the passage on top with the questions below.

Use during:

  • reading warm-ups
  • test prep
  • informational text writing
  • whole group instruction
  • partner work
  • small group
  • literacy centers
  • guided reading groups
  • homework
  • the possibilities are endless!!!!!
