In this product, students will learn how California was controlled by Mexico, who signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and what it meant once it was signed, what territory Mexico gave up, John Sutter - how he was the richest person during this time in California, what he hoped to accomplish, what was built on Sutter's 48,827 acres, why his dream was unsuccessful, and what caused this to happen, who found the first piece of gold in the American River, who James Marshall was and why he was hired by Sutter, Sam Brennan and what he did to become very rich, how much money Brennan earned, who the 49ers were and what they did to try to become rich, and traveling across the country in search of gold - Oregon-California Trail or an ocean voyage - the difficulties that were faced taking both of these routes. Students will also learn about where the Oregon-California Trail started and where it ended, the route that was taken if travelers on the East coast wanted to travel West and the continent they would travel around, what travelers had to do/and how long they had to wait for their turn to look for gold, how many people searched for gold in 1848 and 1849, how searching for gold was easy and then it became more challenging as more time went on, how and why the population of California increased and decreased during and after the California Gold Rush, how much money in gold was found in the American River during The California Gold Rush.

Vocabulary reviewed, but is not limited to the following: merchant, sawmill, gold panning, 49ers, and bandits along the Oregon-California Trail.

Why is Martin Luther King's birthday celebrated as a national holiday, and who was he? Learn how Martin Luther King Jr. transformed American culture forever by watching this incredibly educational Kids Academy film about this remarkable guy. You will learn about his battle against segregation, a legislation in the United States that prohibited individuals with different skin tones from traveling, studying, or dining together. Some individuals felt it was normal to treat Black people badly, despite the fact that slavery had been abolished over a century earlier. In order to combat this inequality, Martin Luther King began using both words and nonviolent means, and he was successful!

There are various activities for your students to do before, while, and after watching the video. The lesson last 90 minutes and it is designed mostly for Elementary school students. This product was made for students to choose 1 of the 50 states and research it. Students are provided with an example of a research report on California in this product. The example state research report includes 7 slides - cover page, where is your state?, facts of the state, symbols of the state, interesting fact about the state, state flag, and why did you write about your state? The example provides students with a foundation of what is expected when they complete their own state research report. This product was developed for students who benefit from adapted instruction. This product can also be used with students who are on grade level as well.

The template is provided for students to write their rough draft. Once students are finished they can create a final draft using Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc. using the information from their rough draft.
