In this product, students will learn about the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th President of the United States, a brief summary of what each of those men did, the war that was happening between France and Great Britain, in 1810, Americans were becoming friendly with France and Great Britain wasn't a fan of this, two main factors that led to war - impressment and blocking of ships - in more detail, how and why America's trade suffered, why New England colonies were afraid to go to war with Great Britain, congressmen in America at this time and how they felt about Great Britain, their nickname - "The War Hawks," Captain James Lawrence and what he did during the war with Great Britain and how his words were impactful, the end of the War of 1812 - who won, how did it end, where and when it ended are included in this product.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer comprehension questions to review what was discussed on previous pages. This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on European explorers that are studied in the 4th grade curriculum. Students will read about Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de León, Jacques Cartier, John Cabot, Henry Hudson, Giovanni da Verrazzano, Hernando de Soto, and Samuel de Champlain. This activity will have students reading about what country the explorer sailed for, what part of the Americas they explored and how their exploration affected later colonization or knowledge of the Americas. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code.

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

Through this PowerPoint, students will become aware of people and events that played an integral part in shaping the 20th Century. It is encouraging that the teacher removes or mutes the free song included in the PowerPoint and plays Billy Joel's 1989 Hit: We Didn't Start The Fire, which depicts major events and people who influence the 20th Century written about in Joel's song.

In this product, students will learn about the Oregon Trail Westward Expansion. Vocabulary covered: pioneers, frontier, forty-niners, California Gold Rush, pioneer life, and The Oregon Trail along with a fill in the blank vocabulary review.
