6th Grade School Counseling Lesson

THIS DOCUMENT IS IN ENGLISH! This document exists in French, here and includes a sexuality and puberty component.

This 45-page document has activities, games, printables, graphic organizers and step-by-step activities to lead engaging discussions with your "big" kids about anxiety, stress and identity.

As with all of my documents, I don't use babyish colors, images or fonts. I create documents for middle-schoolers in mind so this would match the maturity level of grades 5 through 8 - depending on the emotional needs of your students. They're not cutesy or require colored printing,

When a loved one passes away, making sense of the grief that comes as part of this experience can often be difficult and overwhelming. With Grief and Loss Portfolio Project - Coping with Death, you'll get an accessible resource that helps young people make sense of the emotions they are feeling in a supportive environment.

This portfolio project starts with facilitating open dialogue amongst those affected. This constitutes an important first step for moving forward, finding peace, and otherwise healing from a traumatic event. Since every individual is different and will cope with loss differently, this project allows individuals to explore their own journey at their own pace in whatever form or fashion works best for them such as journaling, breath work, and much more. And when talking about death becomes too difficult, this resource provides alternative strategies to develop coping skills which will serve them during future times of emotional distress.

Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of characters who are experiencing a problem. When students are reading each story, they will review how one would feel if they feel left out. This product includes 1 social story that focuses on spreading rumors. Vocabulary that is reviewed and discussed in depth include - spreading rumors, positive self-esteem, negative self-esteem, gossiping, reputation, and the expression - fight fire with fire.

Students will also learn about the following - how spreading rumors can impact self-esteem, how you will feel when you have positive self-esteem, how you will feel when you have negative self-esteem, how to build self-esteem, how one would feel if a rumor was spread about them or how one would feel if they spread a rumor and the person that spread a rumor found out, the negative impacts of spreading rumors, what to do if someone spreads a rumor about you, and 1 social story that focuses on a student spreading a rumor about another student supposedly cheating off his test.

The social story includes comprehension questions throughout. Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the characters. This product encourages students to understand the negative impacts spreading rumors may have, how someone would feel if a rumor was spread about them, and a mature way to how to handle a situation when a rumor is spread.

Below are the specific details for each individual session which can be used in isolation or as a comprehensive anger management curriculum.

Comprising of EIGHT SESSIONS tailored to address specific aspects of anger-related issues, this program equips students with essential life skills:

1. Session 1: Welcome & Introduction to Anger Management Students are introduced to the group's purpose and the importance of anger management. Expectations for the coming weeks are discussed.
2. Session 2: Recognizing Physical and Emotional Responses This session focuses on identifying the physical and emotional signs of anger in themselves, a crucial step in managing anger effectively.
3. Session 3: Triggers and Warning Signs Students explore various triggers and warning signs that lead to anger, helping them proactively manage their reactions.
4. Session 4: In and Out of My Control The concept of control and responsibility in anger management is explored. Students differentiate between what they can control and what they cannot.
5. Session 5: Problem Solving Effective problem-solving techniques for addressing anger-provoking issues are taught. The session emphasizes the importance of resolving problems constructively.

"So You Think You Know Directions?!" is an absolute hit for my students! Prepare for a fun, engaging, and new favorite classroom activity for all! This activity focuses on multiple social emotional learning topics - attentive listening, awareness, team building, perseverance, respectful communication, and SO much more ALL in ONE activity! This digital download comes with everything you need for your next classroom lesson - detailed instructions, ready-to-print cards, and a guide for the teacher! Your students will all work together to complete one goal - get from person #1 to the last person, without skipping anyone in between! Each card comes with a different task that each student will be asked to complete. • Session 4: My Panic Button The session explores the body's response to anxiety, including the anxiety and stress continuum. Participants differentiate between panic attacks and general anxiety while being introduced to anxiety-affirming techniques.
• Session 5: Worries Brain Dump Students explore the concept of a worries brain dump, create their own brain dump craft, and engage in a visualization exercise to empower themselves to regain control over worries.
• Session 6: Cognitive Triangle (Thoughts-Feelings-Actions) This session delves into the cognitive triangle, illustrating the interplay between thoughts, feelings, and actions in anxiety. Participants gain insights into thought patterns contributing to anxiety.
• Session 7: The Power of Thoughts Students explore negative and unhelpful thought patterns, learning to challenge and reframe them. Hands-on activities reinforce mindful reframing techniques, empowering them to harness the power of thoughts.
• Session 8: What's In and Out of My Control (Locus of Control) Participants gain clarity on the concept of locus of control, distinguishing what is within their control and what lies beyond it in anxiety-provoking situations, fostering a sense of empowerment.

• Session 11: Mindful Moments Students learn to cultivate mindfulness in the moment and various environments. Mindful breathing techniques and observation exercises are introduced, promoting presence and awareness in daily life.
