$5 - $10 3rd Grade Vocal Music Activities (by date, oldest first)

A wonderful book and extension lesson to teach children about caring for others! Use this book to deepen social emotional learning in your classroom while still teaching music. Discuss why hugging and caring for others is important, how children feel when they hug/are hugged by someone and practice caring by rocking stuffies/dolls to the song that I wrote for this book. Additional chants are great for practicing rhythm, steady beat, ta and ti-ti and triplet rhythm decoding. There is even a worksheet for additional practice which can be used digitally. Use drums and rhythm sticks for the chant if desired. Great as a Valentine's Day activity or any time of year! Great for ages PreK-3rd and the lesson can be used with/without the book.

Using these six books, create engaging lessons for your students as they sing to the main characters in the story to help them fall asleep. Add instruments for extra engagement and use puppets to create a character for the children to sing to. Additional worksheets (can be used and assigned digitally), reinforce elements of the story such as animal sounds, and rhythm decoding. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.

Use these books to help your students learn the triplet rhythm! The rhythm and beat charts help with decoding triplets and the worksheets provided help with the practice of writing a triplet rhythm. In addition, you can discuss and explore social emotional learning with "A Hug is for Holding Me."
