$5 - $10 3rd Grade Visual Arts Activities (by date, oldest first)

Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Observational Pumpkin Drawing was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I placed several plastic pumpkins and gourds at each set of tables for students to look at and draw. Students practiced drawing/coloring pumpkins and gourds in their sketchbooks or on small paper first. Next, students started a Final Copy drawing of one observational pumpkin and one gourd on 11 x 17-inch paper (horizontal). Students used oil pastels and watercolor paint. Plan to do this unit during the fall, between Halloween and Thanksgiving. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

This is a collection of activities that can be done while watching the movie The Lorax. Each activity focuses on a different skill for ELA. These include Story Elements, Characters, Sequence of Events, Main Idea and Theme, and Point of View and Attitude.

This lesson may be used with or without stations.  With 2 different methods for creating medallions and 3 different 2D background projects, it is simple to differentiate, let students choose their own projects, or even mix and match components from other projects to create a project unique to each student.

These Monet-inspired weaving projects will take your students’ creativity to the next level.  This lesson includes 3 non-traditional weaving projects to inspire your students, captivate their attention & creating stunning artwork.   

The cross-curricular lesson includes 3 weaving projects - 1 on a traditional loom & 2 on paper plates of varying levels of difficulty. Designed for 2nd-5th grade students, these projects are highly engaging, cross-curricular, and can be used with middle schoolers.  

Use the projects as is - detailed, step-by-step instructions are included for each project - or let students use them as inspiration to create something amazing.  

Weaving is a great end-of-year project to engage students and provides a  creative, repetitive activity to help calm students.  It can be used with a unit on Monet or artists, nature, weaving, or any time of year.

They produce stunning artwork that can be mixed and matched for display.  These projects develop students’ fine motor skills & can be used for spring or summer, with an artist study, a unit on Impressionism, a unit on plants, or any time of year.
