St. Patrick's Day Math with Abacus Activities Counting Numbers 0 to 10
By Lynette Yung
Engaging way to bring in the seasonal spirit of St. Patrick's Day Math with Abacus Activities - Counting Numbers 0 to 10, patterns, tracing, cutting and pasting, color by number, pixel art, comparing numbers greater than and less than. Packed with 11 St. Patrick's Day themed abacus math.
Activity #1 - This activity starts with pages of number recognition from zero to ten in different ways. 11 pages, 1 number for each page, starts from zero to ten.
Activity #2 - There is a “Trace the Number” activity with an abacus. Students can color, practice writing the number and becoming familiar with the abacus. 3 pages of clovers, each page with different numbers.
Activity #3 - Included is a pattern recognition activity with St. Patrick’s items on an abacus frame. At the bottom of the page, students can cut the St. Patrick’s items, so they can finish the pattern. This page is in color, but doesn’t need to be printed in color because the items on the abacus frame helps distinguish the numbers. 1 colored page to match the pattern.
Activity #4 - Students count the St. Patrick’s items, write the number and then find the abacus that matches the amount of St. Patrick’s items. 2 Pages of counting and find the abacus with different numbers on each page.
Activity #5 - This activity is matching the St. Patrick’s items and abacus with the numbered pot of gold. 2 pages of Match the pot of gold. Each page is a different set of numbers.
Activity #6 - As students sees the abacus on the St. Patrick’s item, they color the circled number that is represented on the abacus. Included is also a video tutorial. 2 pages with each box a different number.
Activity #7 - This activity, students are introduced to the 5 Frame which displays St. Patrick’s day items in a 5 Frame to show the quantity. At the bottom of the page are Abacus, students can cut the abacus and then paste the abacus next to the related 5 Frame. Students also write the number that the 5 frame represents as well as color the St. Patrick’s day items. 2 pages of 5 frame. One page in order and one page “mixed” up.
Activity #8 - A color by number activity, students can choose a color to represent the number and then color the picture the abacus represents. 2 pages of color by number, each page has different numbers.
Activity #9 - Pixel Art activity, students choose a color to represent the number, tract the number word and then color the matching number in the picture to discover the pixel art. 1 page for the pixel art.
Activity #10 - Abacus maze, students practices counting forwards to find the path to the pot of gold. Students starts with St. Patty to help him find his way to the pot of gold. Then students will practice counting backwards to help St. Patty find his way to the pot of gold. There are 2 pages. One page to count forward and one page to count backward.
Activity #11 - Comparing the abacus with the number. This activity introduces greater than and less than critical thinking.
For example, the page with the number 1, as the student looks at each circle with the abacus, is the abacus greater than the number 1, less than the number 1 or the same. If the abacus is greater than the number on the page students will write the greater than symbol ( > ). If the abacus is less than the number on the page, then students will write the less than symbol ( < ). If the abacus is the same as the number on the page, then students will color the abacus with the circle. This activity is 11 pages which includes 1 number per page from zero to ten.

Montessori Math: Composing Numbers Cards, Place Value | Golden Beads Flip Book
By Jessica Renee Montessori - JRMontessori
The Montessori Number Cards introduce children to the decimal system. Children read and build large numbers and develop an understanding of the written numerical symbols for each category of the decimal system (i.e. units, tens, hundreds, thousands). This resource is a unique take on the traditional number cards. Lower Elementary children will have fun using this flip book to make numbers from 0 to 9999. Creative teachers will find all kinds of uses for this flip book. It's large enough to use for whole group lessons. Children can partner up and make numbers for each other to read or make with the Golden Beads. Endless possibilities.
Open the PREVIEW to see exactly what you will get.
To create the flip book it is recommended that you have access to a laminator and a coil-binding machine. Printing on card stock is advised for durability. You could print on regular paper and staple the book together, but it would not be as easy to use. Instructions are included. You can also view the assembly video here.

Montessori Snake Game: Roman Numerals 1-100, Addition & Subtraction with Beads
By Jessica Renee Montessori - JRMontessori
Teaching Roman numerals is a fun way to practice addition and subtraction of 1 and 10. I've taken a classic Montessori math work (the Snake Game) and added a unique twist. The snakes in this set represent the Roman numerals from 1–100. If your lower elementary children are ready for a fun new challenge, these cards are the perfect independent activity to get them excited about math again.
Only 5 different Montessori beads are used to make the Roman numerals from 1-100. Can you guess what they are? One, five, ten, negative 1, and negative 10! Your students will count the beads in the snake image and then use the included cards to form the matching Roman numeral. As usual, they’ll love the satisfaction of checking the answer on the back of the card. And you’ll love that they can do this work independently! There’s even a fun worksheet to track which cards they’ve completed.
What’s included:
Your students will love this new take on the classic Montessori favorite–the Snake Game. They'll be engaging in a fun new activity, practicing their math facts without even realizing it, and learning a new number system all at the same time. That’s something to be proud of!
**Prep is quick and easy...**all you need to do is print the file double-sided and cut on the cutting lines. There are no annoying borders to cut off! You don’t even need to use actual Montessori beads if you don’t have them, the file has everything you need. Now you’re ready to bring some new excitement to your math area!
