The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

Animal classification is when scientists organize animals into groups and sort them by what they have in common. This makes it easier for scientists to study animals. For an example: A whale and a dog don’t have as much in common, but a dog and a wolf do.  The five most well known classes of vertebrates (animals with backbones) are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians.  Two of the most commonly known classes of invertebrates (animals without a backbone) are arachnids (spiders) and insects. This product includes notes for students learning about how plants move materials.

Vocabulary words that are emphasized in this packet include: nonvascular plants, vascular plants, phloem, xylem, veins, transpiration, evaporation, root pressure, cohesion, and gravity.

In this product, students will learn what vascular and nonvascular plants are, how they differ from one another, where they are found, and what they contain. Students will also learn about plant stems and why they are important to a plant, how they benefit a plant, help a plant grow, transport sugars through the plant, etc. Students will also learn, in detail how stems from plants contain 2 important kinds of tissue - phloem and xylem. Students will learn that water moves upward in plants because of three things - root pressure, cohesion, and transpiration. Students will also learn how gravity is beneficial in plants.

Throughout the product, students will complete short answer comprehension questions, fill in the blank questions using a key, labeling a diagram based on what was presented on phloem and xylem and another diagram on transpiration, evaporation, root pressure, cohesion, and gravity.
