Understanding All Emotions (Session #6)
By Mrs Bell The Crafty Counselor
The Board Game! Teach students how to recognize and respond to emotional situations. Included: 8x10 Game Board 60 Double-Sided Situation Cards Game Guidelines Game Pieces You will need a single dice to play. After teaching each emotion (sad, uneasy, surprised, angry, disgusted, and happy) play this game with your student or small group. Follow the game guidelines and enjoy playing this game with your students. Assembly: Print pages 7-16, double-sided, on cardstock. Laminate for extra durability. When cards speak of emotion words, they are referring to the words used on the posters in the first lesson “Teaching Emotions”. Refer to this if you are teaching the two lessons in conjunction with one another. If you are not, simply ask the student to provide synonyms for the emotions they are describing. Example: Emotion is sad. Emotion words could be blue, upset, fragile, unhappy, down, etc. There are two types of game pieces; flat and pop up. To create the flat pieces, cut on the dotted lines. To create the pop ups, cut on the dotted lines and fold on the solid lines. Feel free to substitute anything you would like for the game pieces. You could use coins, chips, the possibilities are endless, get creative! Game Rules: All players pick a game piece and begin in square #1: The first player rolls a single dice and moves the appropriate amount of spaces (1-6). If they land in a space that does not have a chameleon in it, the next person takes a turn. If they land on a space that has a chameleon on a flower vine, (example space #4, #7, #11, #15, #23, #26, #30, #34, #42), they pick a Situation Card from the pile. They read the situation out loud, and answer all of the questions (one to three questions per Situation Card). If they answer all questions correctly, they follow the worms to a higher space, closer to the food bowl (and the winners circle). If they answer incorrectly they stay put. If they land on a space that has a chameleon on a tree branch, (example space #9, #13, #20, #27, #31, #36, #45, #46) they automatically slide down to the lower level. They then pick a Situation Card, if they answer all parts correctly, they get another turn and roll the dice again. The game is over when someone reaches the winner’s circle. I hope your students have a BLAST with this game!! This is now part of a bundle! Click here for great savings! Mrs. Bell The Crafty Counselor

Anger Regulation Resources to Teach Emotional Regulation and Calming Skills
By Mrs Bell The Crafty Counselor
This Anger Bundle is packed with calm down tools and anger resources that can help kids work through and understand their anger.
Included are four resources:
Anger Monsters
Calm Down FlipBook
Keep Your Cool, Don't Have a Meltdown
Anger Workbook
Check out the information below for a detailed description of each product.
1) Anger Monsters
Sometimes a student just needs to calm down while building a monster and coloring for a bit before they are able to clearly express what made them so angry. This resource is designed for just that.
Included are three types of monster eyes and six monster body templates with various types of questions that can be used with all types of students based on ability levels. The monster bodies include various drawing and writing activities that are designed to calm students down while challenging them to think of what makes them angry and how they can better handle that anger.
These anger monsters have allowed my students to calm the angry monsters within themselves. I hope your students find great success with them too.
2) Calm Down FlipBook
This Calm Down Flipbook is a quick way to get students thinking and talking about how they can control their emotions and anger.
Assembly is a breeze. Print all pages on colorful paper (double sided printing FLIP ON SHORT EDGE). Line the pages up in the correct order, fold over, staple and you have your very own flipbook!!!
This flipbook has students explore and recognize their triggers, identify their unique type of anger, test out new calming strategies, learn to take control of their emotions and recognize which strategies might work best for them.
My kiddos love this, I know yours will too! :)
3) Keep Your Cool, Don't Have a Meltdown
Included in this download:
*Keep Your Cool Posters (19)
Each feature a different strategy that will help your students learn to keep their cool. These are perfect for cool down corners, think time areas, or as a visual aid while teaching the calm down strategies.
*Flip Book for Students
This is a mini version of the posters that students can keep close by or at their desk. They can avoid meltdown mode if they refer to these handy cool down strategies.
*Don’t Have a Meltdown Chart
Displays the 19 cool down strategies in an easy to understand way.
*Bookmarksand Desk Charts
The bookmarks are perfect for any student and the desk chart are ideal for students who need an easy to locate visual reminder of the strategies.
*Think Time Sheets (4)
(require writing and reflection, consider student ability level before use)
Think time is an important skill for everyone, not just our little ones, to learn. Think time allows a person to step back and reevaluate their current situation, allowing them to not act in the heat of the moment. Once calmer, they can think of how to handle the situation from a rational perspective.
I know when I am upset I do not think the clearest or make the best choices for myself, why would I expect a child to be able to?
Think time allows children a safe outlet to bounce around ideas of what they did, where they went wrong and what they are going to do about it. It allows children to process the information without feeling the need to become defensive or protect themselves. They can problem solve and come up with their own solutions, allowing for tremendous personal growth and development.
Let’s face it, we may be teachers, but ultimately we’re still human. We are the rational adults, however sometimes we let our emotions get wrapped up in the situation. We are invested in our students and can have an emotional reaction to their behaviors at times (no matter how hard we try to hide it). Think time can also provide a much needed break from the situation, for both the student and the teacher.
4) Anger Workbook
All too often I see angry kids. Everything seems to set them off. When I ask them to talk about what happened, they cannot seem to put their feelings into words.
This workbook is designed to help children understand and express their anger. This interactive booklet requires kids to explore their anger through use of questions and drawing activities that force them to think deep and evaluate their own behavior.
Color and Black & White copy included in download.
I have found great success with my students who use this workbook. I hope yours do too.
Be cautious of student ability levels when using with second grade. This activity requires a lot of writing.
For small version, print workbook double-sided (for best results, I click double-sided "short-edge binding" when printing). Simply fold the pages in half with the front and back cover facing out and staple to bind the booklet.
For full page booklet print double sided with long edge binding.
