With this activity, students will drag and drop a comma or a semicolon to fix each run-on sentence. Before assessing student knowledge with this activity, students should know when to use a comma and when to use a semicolon. Students will receive immediate feedback with this activity.

This page provides you with a simple way to write anecdotal notes as you wander around the room observing your students working. This form is completely customizable allowing your to insert the goal, grade, term etc. There is space for each students name and a line for your comments/observations. This form is not subject specific.

This document includes two half-page writing checklists that students can use to self evaluate their writing pieces. The grading rubric is simple and easy to follow. It allows students to grade themselves on a four point grading scale based on writing quantity, quality, and neatness.

Writer's Workshop - First Twenty Days outline This gives you a twenty day introduction to writers' workshop in the middle grades. From going through the rules of the workshop, to editing vs. conferencing, to the different genre of writing. Everything is covered or introduced in this twenty day plan. This resource is the perfect pre-reading assignment for the novel The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. It includes four statements where students need to decide if they strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, and strongly disagree. They then have to give their reasoning. These four pre-reading reflection questions get students' brains activated and thinking about various themes, lessons, and ideas they will come across in the novel. It is great to see what students are thinking on these big topics before they begin the novel!! Not only is it fun and engaging for your students, the responses students give are also very interesting to read as a teacher! This product comes with a printable version (pdf) and a Google Drive (Google Slides) version for a total of 4 pages.
