Des images et des détails poignants leur permettront de mieux comprendre le symbolisme du coquelicot, le jour de l'Armistice, l'Holocauste d'Hitler et le rôle que les Canadiens ont joué dans les deux guerres mondiales. Il leur fera explorer brièvement la Première Guerre mondiale et la Seconde Guerre mondiale ainsi que certaines guerres actuelles.

Desert Island Explorer is an engaging, two-week game-based sub unit designed for grades 5 to 9, offering an immersive and bilingual experience centered around the theme of desert islands. This project-based learning module combines elements of language arts, science, and teamwork to enhance students' critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative skills.

De nos jours, il semble que les élèves connaissent de moins en moins les grands événements et moments historiques, qu'ils soient bons ou mauvais. Ce document est conçu pour permettre aux enseignants de donner à leurs élèves un aperçu de certains événements majeurs de l'Histoire que nous n'avons souvent pas le temps d'explorer en détail en classe, mais qui offrent au moins aux élèves une première introduction à ces moments marquants.

Ce document pédagogique propose une immersion dans 41 moments marquants de l’Histoire mondiale à travers des récits captivants. Chaque semaine, les élèves découvriront un personnage fictif placé au cœur d'un événement historique majeur, avec un focus sur le contexte temporel, géographique, les personnes impactées et les répercussions à long terme de cet événement.

Les élèves seront invités à rédiger des entrées de journal intime en adoptant la perspective de personnages historiques, tels qu'un jeune garçon dans un pensionnat autochtone, une infirmière sur le front de la guerre de Sécession, ou encore un membre d'une communauté des Premières Nations lors des négociations des traités avec le gouvernement canadien.

Objectifs pédagogiques :

• Comprendre les moments historiques clés qui ont façonné le monde et leurs répercussions durables.
• Encourager l’écriture créative et l’exploration des perspectives personnelles et historiques.
• Sensibiliser les élèves à l’empathie à travers des récits ancrés dans des contextes réels.
• Stimuler la réflexion critique en analysant comment les événements ont affecté les différentes communautés.

Contenu :

• 41 semaines de suggestions d'écriture basées sur des moments historiques divers et enrichissants.
• Chaque activité inclut les détails clés : période, lieu, personnes touchées, et conséquences à long terme sur le monde.
• Des descriptions concises pour guider les élèves dans leur écriture.
• Une activité engageante où les élèves imaginent des récits personnels tout en explorant des événements historiques.

✐ Noël - Week long French primary writing program for Christmas - Set 2 ✐

Theme: Qu'est-ce que je vais offrir comme cadeaux de Noël cette année?

This one week French writing program will have your students writing every day of the week, and is perfect for French immersion. The writing activities in this program include five pre-writing and writing activities for Monday through Friday. These writing prompts are a great way both to introduce and to review writing. Check out all of my Christmas resources for the French classroom here.

These vocabulary activities are specifically meant to be used along with my my Christmas themed reading and vocabulary programs which use a lot of the same words. Have a look at the preview so I can tell you more about the activities that are included! The images in the preview show resources from Set 1, but you can get a good feel for how the program runs.

Here’s how this program works:

✍Lundi:  Je dessine - Give students a drawing page with a writing prompt at the top. This will have them beginning to think about the writing theme for the week and is their first pre-writing assignment. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration!

✍Mardi:  Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them color it.

✍Mercredi:  Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says “ Mots de vocabulaire utiles: J’utiliserai ces mots dans mon paragraphe.”

✍Jeudi:  Mon brouillon - Students write a rough draft of their paragraph using the vocabulary words selected on Wednesday. The brouillon page includes a 5 point checklist at the top for students to evaluate their work for themselves before writing the final copy on Friday. This will motivate students to look over their work and make corrections. 

✍Vendredi:  Ma copie propre - The fifth and final step in this writing program is to write the final copy. Students should feel very confident in writing about this week’s theme by now. At the top of the final copy page they’ll see the writing prompt and question words that they can ask themselves while writing:  qui - quoi - quand - où - pourquoi - comment

Noël - One week French reading program for Christmas - Set 2

Theme: Qu'est-ce que je vais offrir comme cadeaux de Noël cette année?

This one-week French reading comprehension program is suitable for upper-beginner to intermediate level primary or secondary levels. This program will have your students reading every day of the week, and is perfect for core or French immersion. These reading activities are specifically meant to be used along with my my Christmas themed vocabulary and writing programs which use a lot of the same words. Have a look at the video preview so I can tell you more about the activities that are included! The images in the preview show resources from Set 1, but you can get a good feel for how the program runs. Check out all of my Christmas resources for the French classroom here.

The reading activities in this program include five separate reading comprehension activities for Monday through Friday. These reading worksheets are a great way to practice new themed vocabulary, see sight words in action, and to improve overall comprehension. Each worksheet includes a paragraph that should be read three times, once for each of the three questions that follow. Students check off the circled numbers each time they read the text and then they answer the corresponding questions.
