A Google Forms reading comprehension bundle with forty individual activities about key events from May, June, July or August from history, or famous figures that were either born or died in the summer. The activities, which come in PDF format too, have an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, are about the following people or topics:

• The famous English soccer player, David Beckham, who was born on the 2nd May 1975.
• The French leader, Napoleon Bonaparte, who died on the 5th May 1821 on the remote island of St. Helena.
• The 33rd president of the United States, Harry Truman, who was born on the 8th May 1884.
• VE Day, where Germany surrendered to Allied forces on the 8th May 1945, which brought an end of World War II in Europe.
• The famous Spanish Surrealist artist, Salvador Dali, who was born on the 11th May 1904.
• The founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, who was born on the 12th May 1820.
• The guide and translator, Sacagawea, who joined Lewis and Clark as they set off on their expedition across America on the 14th May 1804.
• Mount Everest, which was climbed for the first time on the 29th May 1953.
• The famous Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg, who received an Honorary Doctor of Law from the University of British Colombia on the 31st May 2021.
• The nemesis of the Roman Empire, Hannibal, who famously crossed the Alps with his army which included elephants in May 218 BC.
• The record-breaking Spanish tennis player, Rafael Nadal, who was born on the 3rd June 1986.
• The famous English king who ruled during the Revolutionary War, King George III, who was born on the 4th June 1738.
• The famous World War II battle, the Battle of Midway, which began on the 4th June 1942.
• The first African American woman to be admitted into NASAs astronaut program, Mae Jemison, who joined on the 4th June 1987.
• The recently deceased husband to Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, who was born on the 10th June 1921.
• The famous German-born diarist of World War II, Anne Frank, who was born on the 12th June 1929.
• The Enigma code breaking English mathematician, Alan Turing, who was born on the 23rd June 1912.
• The famous American Olympic star, Wilma Rudolph, who was born on the 23rd June 1940.

• The famous wonder, Petra, which was discovered on the 22nd August 1812 in Jordan, after being hidden from western eyes for centuries.
• The famous NASA mathematician and scientist, Katherine Johnson, who was born on the 26th August 1918.

Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

A Google Slides biography writing unit about the famous Brazilian soccer star, Pele. The unit is ideal for both in-class and distance learning in fifth grade and sixth grade. The unit has been split into four separate lessons. The Google Slides activity is ideal for students learning about World History or for Black History Month.

Secondly, there are four Biography Writing Units. These units focus on:

These units have each been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The Google Slides activities are ideal for distance learning. The first lessons are interactive and involve students reading facts, and then sorting and ordering these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to type four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson they need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions before typing up their conclusion. This resource is a 5th grade or 6th grade discussion based writing unit discussing who is the most influential scientist of all time: Isaac Newton, Marie Curie or Albert Einstein. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The Google Slides activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students learning about science or World History.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about the three scientists, and typing these on to an included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual people. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before typing up their work using the template provided.

The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The Google Slides activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students learning about basketball, physical education or U.S. History.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Michael Jordan, LeBron James or Stephen Curry, and typing these on to an included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual players. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before typing up their work using the template provided.

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
