In this lesson, students learn more about the history of the computer. The lesson starts with a Microsoft PowerPoint whole class presentation that gives an overview of computer history from the 1950’s through current times. Next, students work in small groups to research history information from an assigned decade and then to create a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to share with the class. Students take notes during the presentations and then culminate their learning with a short quiz over the material. A study sheet is provided to cover the material from each decade that will be tested to give students an opportunity to review the information (or to assist in the case of absences or presentations that are incomplete). This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary grades or high school as well. In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the history and invention of toys as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Next, students will be challenged by creating a presentation to showcase how different toys evolved over the years, comparing toys of fifty years ago with modern ones. Also included with this lesson is a wordsearch puzzle and an answer key, which is perfect for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.

Description:

• This product contains templates to help students write an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion for an Expository Research Writing project on animals. The introduction has students begin with an interesting lead and include sentences with general and specific sentences on appearance, habitat, diet, life cycle, and predators. There are two introduction templates on one page. This page will simply need to be cut in half so that an introduction can be given to two students per page. The body paragraph template has space for four paragraphs with main idea titles and spaces for key words that will be turned into sentences. The key words will be found and highlighted in their research prior to filling out this template. This page will need to be printed front and back. Remind students to add transition words when they write their final draft. The conclusion has a blank for a transition word, which has helped my students remember to put one. It also contains three spaces for summary sentences and one space for a final feeling sentence to close the report. There are other instructions included in this packet.
