Express a different point of view:

Students approach identifying and explaining the cooperation and conflict of the colonists and the indigenous people in Jamestown in a new way. They begin by presenting the thoughts and actions of the leaders of these two groups in thought bubbles. As an extension, the students evaluate what situations caused conflicts and speculate on how they may have handled the situations if they were present in Jamestown.

This approach requires students to be more creative than simply answering questions. Students can also research to find more in depth answers. This product is aligned with 5th grade Studies Weekly Week 13, American Foundations. However, this can be used as a stand alone assignment.

This product aligns with Indiana Social Studies standard 5.H.6.

The project is divided into fourteen sections, including the front pages. Sections include Language/Population, Habitat/Geography, Family Structure, Government, and several others. Each section has a list of criteria and questions that must be answered to complete the section.

I would expect a single student to take about ten weeks, with a weekly goal (perhaps a little faster) of completing one section.

There is a score for each section and teacher info on ways to make it work.

The project contains a cover sheet, a teacher's page, two student pages and a sheet to help students select an appropriate civilization.

There is also a list of civilizations that have an abundance of information available on line.

These easy to use, no prep, substitution plans give you an ideal back up plan to have ready in your classroom just in case. The bundle contains five close reading activities about key events or influential figures from Ancient Persia, two biography writing units, an informational writing unit, and an opinion writing unit.

Ideal for emergency sub plans in fifth grade or sixth grade.

Firstly, there are five reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• An Overview of Ancient Persia
• Key Advancements of Ancient Persia
• Cyrus the Great
• Darius the Great
• King Xerxes I

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, a crossword and a wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are two biography writing units about Cyrus the Great and Darius the Great. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Then, there is an informational writing unit about Ancient Persia. The unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Finally, there is an opinion writing unit about who was the most influential figure from the history of Ancient Persia: Cyrus, Darius or Xerxes. This unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

This unit connects learning with technology to Social Studies. This is perfect for technology class or for use in a Social Studies or History classroom that wants to incorporate technology with a lesson. Students create a presentation in either Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides with information about their topic.

In this lesson, students are provided with links to other resources and tutorials to help them with their project. Students create a presentation about a topic of interest related to the Cold War from a provided list after researching the topic. This is an excellent creative project to add to a unit on the Cold War. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.
