A great Earth Day activity to reinforce map skills!

This fun activity is great for your students on Earth Day! We all know how students get excited on Valentine's Day! Through this activity, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzle, but they will alsohave the opportunity to practice reading the latitude and longitude coordinate grid system (absolute location). Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. They will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. End the end, they have a photo to color and decorate!

This is a math mystery that is specifically aligned to the 4th grade Engage NY and Eureka math module 2 on metric conversions. This resource would also be a great for review of area for 4th grade students prior to the state test. This resource includes a scenario, a suspect list, 5 clues that students will solve to find the culprit and answers keys to all pages. Conversions practiced in this are: converting units, adding and subtracting metric units, comparing unlike units, adding or subtracting mixed units and converting to the smaller units.

This resource would be great to use as a review before the end of module assessment, before state tests, on the days leading up to a school break so new materials isn't being introduced yet, as a math lesson to leave for a substitute teacher, use individual clues as daily center work over the course of a week, etc. This resource also has an Earth Day theme with the recycling, anti trash themes occurring in the storyline and suspect list.

My students absolutely love doing these! They especially love predicting who the culprit is prior to beginning the clues to see if they could guess it correctly!

A great Veteran's Day activity to reinforce map skills!

This fun activity is great for your students on Earth Day! We all know how students get excited on Valentine's Day! Through this activity, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzle, but they will have the opportunity to practice reading the latitude and longitude coordinate grid system (absolute location). Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. They will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. The final product is a photo to color and decorate!
