In the French classroom, it can be difficult to find new and engaging ways to grab the attention of our students without falling back on the old standards of 'les mains sur la tete...'

I keep a list of new and fun ways of getting students attention in my notes on my phone and try them out with my students. I love it when they get to the point that they spontaneously answer back.

Here are the four posters I have up in my classroom. My students love them!

French Number Lines are not always easy to find to fit the tone and feeling of your classroom! I have developed this number line with simple font and easy to read numbers and words so that your students can get started on reading their numbers together. This bright coloured French Number Line will look great in your classroom whether you are just starting out or if you need a fresh new look part-way through the year!

What to expect:

-Numerical bubble with one number in each circle

-numbers 1 to 100 (with an extra bubble with '0' in it for use if you choose)*

*Please note the font I chose does not have an 'accent aigu' so you will have to add it in your own hand.

I have added this number line to my classroom and the students started organically using it whenever a number comes up in conversation. We have a clear gateway to practice from any number and we count forward and backward depending on the whim of the day. Students love to be the one to choose our number of the day and we get counting!

Science of Reading Assessment Tool Tracking Sheet

I created a French SOR Assessment tool to cover all the sounds for students K to 3 in the French Immersion setting (Grade 4-6 Core French) for easy assessment and evaluation. Once I got started on my own testing, I realized I could use a quick look tracking sheet.

I learned how to make the boxes editable and hope it works out for you. (I did ask a few colleagues to try it out first). I am offering it FREE for now.

How to use this product:

French Decodable texts that align with the Science of Reading and current available reading education concepts. The easy to use texts can be utilised in the classroom with little to no preparation. Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Who can use this resource:

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. French School Lunch Menu Activities Bundle - 5 French and English Versions

Here are five no prep printable activities to use along with my free French school lunch menu series. You get five versatile worksheets that you can use with any of the lunch menus I've provided. Since there are so many menus available, having five different worksheets to use will keep your menu activities from becoming boring. All of the menus are in French only, but each worksheet has a French only and an English only version so that you can use them with any level whether you teach core French or in French immersion.

I recommend printing the menu you want to use on one side of a sheet of paper and the set of questions you want to use on the other. Talk about a time saver and fun cultural addition to your food unit!

Versions 1 - 4 have ten questions each while version 5 has six questions. The questions on these worksheets will have your students learning a lot about cultural differences concerning menu items as well as the amount of time French students get for lunch, why there's no menu for Wednesday, etc.

Your students will find it interesting to see that French kids are offered une entrée, un plat principal, une garniture, un produit laitier, et un dessert every day.

It would be fun to look up images of some of these menu items to show students what they look like and if they eat anything similar at their schools or homes.
