I was getting frustrated trying to find texts to support my biodiversity unit, and was finding my students could truly only find pertinent, engaging information by researching. What I had at my disposition was outdated; or didn't particularly touch on diversity, or was overly focused on specific species of animals... It simply wasn't cutting it. I wanted to teach with a cross-curricular approach and integrate biodiversity-themed readings in with my language arts program. Ta-Da!

These texts can also be used as mentor texts when teaching your informative or research report unit; and they can also be used as guided readings with small groups, or as a whole group choral reading. No more finding enough copies of books for your crew: simply print and go.

This 40-page resource is the biodiversity informative text holy grail and contains 13 different texts for students to explore and discover topics relating to diversity. Play French scattergories when you need a quick, no prep activity to review and practice vocabulary. Le Petit Bac sera le jeu parfait! You can play this game with students of any age or level. 24 games are included with 96 different categories!

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them! Save with the bundle!

Expect your students to:

• want to play again and again
• practice several skills at once
• enjoy stretching their thinking
• practice brainstorming and fluency

If you need an entertaining French Halloween reading passage with listening comprehension activities that are ready to use, your students will love SEUL, a spooky (but not too scary) story that will leave them wanting more! You'll know how to keep your students engaged during the Halloween week with the bundle which includes 5 different reading and listening comprehension activities. • 1 Story - 1 page printable, approximately 300 words
• Vocabulary list - French and English - 1 page printable

Recommended lesson plan for reading comprehension:

STEP 1:  Distribute the vocabulary list, and read the words aloud having students repeat after you.  All of the words listed are in the story they will read, and many of them may be new.  

STEP 2:  Distribute the 10 reading comprehension questions.  Have students read them before reading the story for greater understanding of the information they will need to retain.

STEP 3:  Distribute the 1 page story, and either have students read it silently, or read it together as a class with the teacher calling on individual students to read a passage aloud. 

STEP 4:  Students answer ten comprehension questions either in written form as they read silently, or do the exercise orally as a whole class activity once everyone has finished.

Recommended lesson plan for listening comprehension:

STEP 1:  Distribute the vocabulary list, and read the words aloud having students repeat after you.  All of the words listed are in the story they will read, and many of them may be new.  

STEP 2:  Distribute the 10 listening comprehension questions.  Have students read them before listening to the story for greater understanding of the information they will need to retain.

STEP 3:  Play the audio recording of the story and have students listen to it  as many times as you see fit.  If you have students who struggle with listening comprehension, distribute the story in written form for them to read along while listening.

STEP 4:  Students answer ten comprehension questions either in written form while listening to the recording, or do the exercise orally as a whole class activity.

8. How to use this lesson

Dictée #1 : This dictée is less than 3 minutes. Give each student a response sheet.

Students listen to the dictée and write the number they hear both as words and digits.

Dictée #2 : This dictée lasts about 10 minutes and requires a lot of concentration. It is called CALCUL RAPIDE. Students hear 50 simple math equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Technically students as young as 9 or 10 should be able to do the math. I got this idea from my daughter’s 3rd grade class in France (CE2). Of course, being in French makes “simple math” a lot more difficult and will challenge even high school age non-native speakers.

If you're struggling to find an original and engaging activity for your beginner French students to practice and review regular RE verbs, you are going to love these listening comprehension and writing activities in the present tense.
