This is a simple to use for that allows students to provide themselves feedback on their reading (using a specific strategy). The form also provides space for a peer and teacher feedback, as well as a place for the student to set a goal for next time.

Beyond the primary grades teachers often seem to forget about checking students reading fluency. This is a simple to use form for students to provide themselves a self-feedback on their read aloud fluency. Teachers can then use the same form to provide their own feedback on the students reading fluency. File states to use Audacity (a free download online) but other recording programs/devices may be used - this is just a personal choice/what is available on our school computers. Ten four-leaf clovers with St. Patrick's Day vocabulary for individual, small or whole group creative writings. Hand one to each student/group and have students use the vocabulary to build creative writings or timed assessment writings. Great for incorporating St. Patrick's Day terminology into lesson plans.

This product is a quiz with questions from chapters 1-3. I use it as a reading check to make sure my students are keeping up and understanding the text. There is a sequencing events section, a characterization matching section, and a true/ false plot section. There are 25 questions in total. I've formatted the quiz so it is on a half sheet of paper, with the first two sections on the front and the third on the back, so you will have to make double- sided copies and then cut them in half. This is an independent reading preparedness and preparation rubric I use to make sure students come to class prepared to read, and stay focused and respectful to their peers while reading in class. It is a 4 point rubric, and focuses on preparedness and performance. Students use it to self-assess their own reading habits, and set a goal to work towards at the bottom. Then I go in and score them with a different color pen on the rubric, so they can see where they believe they are, and where I believe they are on the rubric.

This document is a quiz which contains 12 quotes from chapters 8 and 9 of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. Students must identify the speaker of the quote. A word bank of 10 names is included, but some names are used once and some are not used at all. It's a great quick assessment to check your students' understanding of the chapters. This is a quick quiz for chapters 6-7. It gives the students a quote and asks them to identify the speaker. Some names are used multiple times, while some aren't used at all. I have included an answer key and the page the quotes can be found on for your reference.

Students use a die to decide the character, format, and topic that they will use for this reading response writing assignment. Students will have to assume the perspective of the character they roll first. You can use this resource with any book. Students simply need to write in the names of characters. This activity should accompany Ellen Raskin's book The Westing Game. Check your students' reading comprehension by assigning them one of 16 character cards. Students will ask each other questions in order to determine the character card that five of their classmates have. Students will have to know the characters in the book in order to ask and answer useful questions. This activity allows students to get up and moving!
