Spanish AI School Vocabulary Conversation Project Using Chat GPT!

By Churros and Croissants

Unlock the possibilities of using artificial intelligence (AI) in your Spanish classroom! Students will learn how to program ChatGPT to act as a new friend named MarcoAI from Bolivia. They will embark on a captivating language-learning journey with MarcoAI by joining in an immersive conversation about their school, subjects, supplies, teachers, and more.

As students engage in roleplay with their new language partner, they will receive valuable individualized feedback to refine their Spanish-speaking skills. Once they have completed at least 10 exchanges and taken time to reflect on the pros and cons of practicing language with AI, they will create a slide presentation, offering them a deeper understanding of 21st-century language learning. Together, let's blend the magic of AI with the beauty of the Spanish language and witness the incredible possibilities unfold!

Topics covered in this project are inquiry-based and can be tailored to your curriculum but may include:

-Greetings/Introductions

-School Subjects

-School Supplies

-Personal Descriptions

-Time/Ordinal Numbers

This project is the perfect culmination to a unit on school vocabulary in Middle School Foundations of Spanish, Spanish I, or Spanish II. It can also be modified for more advanced students.

If AI is restricted on student computers, this can be completed as a class using smartboard projection.

*Please refer to your school/district's AI policies. The use of AI in this teaching project is solely intended for educational purposes and does not replace the guidance and expertise of a qualified human instructor. While AI can provide valuable insights and assistance, it is an ever-evolving technology and may have limitations in understanding individual needs of students. It is essential for educators to exercise discernment and adapt AI tools responsibly in the learning process. Students and teachers are encouraged to collaborate and prioritize human interaction for a well-rounded and personalized educational experience.

Spanish Culture Points Project

By Churros and Croissants

The Spanish Culture Points Project is a student-centered cultural project that puts students in the driver's seat! This was one of my students' favorite projects to complete because it let them explore their own interests. It was also one of my favorite to grade because each one was different!

Students pick from tasks relevant to them like music, cooking, history, etc. Each tasks has points assigned to it so they must complete enough of these small tasks to total up to the grade they would like to receive (generally 4-5 tasks).

This project worked great for middle school and lower levels of language but could be adapted to upper language levels as well.

Duration varies. I assigned this as a take-home project. Several tasks can be completed in school, but not all. We took a 90 minute block period to present to the class. Some classes where students brought in speakers lasted longer.

Includes rubric to total points gained for project.
