Spanish AI School Vocabulary Conversation Project Using Chat GPT!

By Churros and Croissants

Unlock the possibilities of using artificial intelligence (AI) in your Spanish classroom! Students will learn how to program ChatGPT to act as a new friend named MarcoAI from Bolivia. They will embark on a captivating language-learning journey with MarcoAI by joining in an immersive conversation about their school, subjects, supplies, teachers, and more.

As students engage in roleplay with their new language partner, they will receive valuable individualized feedback to refine their Spanish-speaking skills. Once they have completed at least 10 exchanges and taken time to reflect on the pros and cons of practicing language with AI, they will create a slide presentation, offering them a deeper understanding of 21st-century language learning. Together, let's blend the magic of AI with the beauty of the Spanish language and witness the incredible possibilities unfold!

Topics covered in this project are inquiry-based and can be tailored to your curriculum but may include:

-Greetings/Introductions

-School Subjects

-School Supplies

-Personal Descriptions

-Time/Ordinal Numbers

This project is the perfect culmination to a unit on school vocabulary in Middle School Foundations of Spanish, Spanish I, or Spanish II. It can also be modified for more advanced students.

If AI is restricted on student computers, this can be completed as a class using smartboard projection.

*Please refer to your school/district's AI policies. The use of AI in this teaching project is solely intended for educational purposes and does not replace the guidance and expertise of a qualified human instructor. While AI can provide valuable insights and assistance, it is an ever-evolving technology and may have limitations in understanding individual needs of students. It is essential for educators to exercise discernment and adapt AI tools responsibly in the learning process. Students and teachers are encouraged to collaborate and prioritize human interaction for a well-rounded and personalized educational experience.

Spanish Video Project Tourism Ad for a Spanish-Speaking Country

By Specialty Spanish

This FUN and motivating project will get your Spanish students doing some presentational speaking for a real-world purpose! Students research the tourist attractions of a Spanish-speaking country and create an ad. The purpose of the ad is to attract more tourists, but the purpose of the project is for students to learn about the wonderful places in the Spanish-speaking world and to encourage them to put these places on their "must see" list! All parts of this activity are customizable to make them just right for your students.

In this mini-project, students will choose a Spanish-speaking country. They will research the "Can't Miss" tourist destinations of the country in-depth. Next they will find images of the places and important information about the places and use them to create an advertisement. Student have many options for how they would like to put their TV ad together, including Google Slides, Screencastify and others. The goal is to make an ad that the target audience can't resist! This country is the NEXT place they plan to go on vacation!

One thing I've struggled with in the past is students not using class work time well. To solve this, I created a timeline that explains what should be accomplished during each work period. It has been very successful in terms of students being on task during class work time, and has reduced the amount of "last minute" project completion that often results in low quality work. The timeline is now included with this project!

Depending on your class size and other factors, students can share their work in 3 ways:

-instead of recording their audio into their commercial, they can present live!

-they can record their audio, and the teacher can play each one for the class

-*This is what I usually do! I ask students to set up their computers on their desks, open to their presentation. Students switch seats and watch a number of ads that their classmates created. It ads more student choice and more engagement!

This resource is INCLUDED in the complete lesson plans for AP Spanish® Unit 5 linked below!!

Who can use this product?

  • Students at the Intermediate level of the ACTFL proficiency chart or higher
  • AP Spanish® Students

How can I use this product?

  • Assign this project in parts for in-class or for homework
  • Use this project as a presentational speaking grade
  • Give students the opportunity to use their Spanish to create a quality real-world product!
  • Allow students to show their ads in class. Watch as the audience is awed and captivated by the interesting, beautiful and wonderful places that they can travel to comfortably as Spanish-speakers!
  • Involve the class in the presentations by having them vote on different categories, like: Most convincing ad, Country with the Most Natural Beauty, Most Fun Country, Most Adventurous Vacation, Most Different from the US, etc.
  • Use the information students learn for a cultural comparison
  • Works well with Unit 5 AP® curriculum about factors that influence our quality of life!

What’s included in this product?

  • 2-page Google Doc with student instructions and a step-by-step outline of the process in Spanish

Spanish Verb Tenses Project for Review

By Specialty Spanish

This Spanish Verb Tenses Project is perfect to review all the tenses students have learned! Spanish students will write sentences in the present, past and future related to themes that are familiar to them. The rubric will provide fast and specific feedback so students can fix any mistakes! Students can complete this verb tense project individually or in groups. Teachers may assign this as one big project or in smaller parts.

Though teachers can customize (and either add or reduce these tenses), students will create 5 slides, each with 6 sentences. The 6 sentences represent the 6 tenses students have learned so far (present, present progressive, preterite, imperfect, imperfect progressive and future). Students choose a theme for each slide, such as travel, summer, food, etc. They write sentences in each tense to practice 1) how to form each tense, 2) connecting the name of the tense with what it looks like and 3) what each verb tense means in English. Students can customize the design of each slide as well! Students can keep their completed project for future reference as they continue their language learning.

The rubric is designed for teachers to tell students which slide and which tenses on each slide are correct or have an error to make feedback fast and specific!

But have they ever heard of Fiesta de la Candelaria, Constitution Day, Día de Las Velitas, Carnaval, or dozens of other holidays celebrated throughout the Spanish-speaking world from December through February?

This flexible group project is a great way to expose your students to a wide variety of cultural traditions and practices in a short amount of time with minimal effort on your part!

Students will work in groups of 2-4 to research Winter holidays in a given Spanish-speaking country. Each member will focus on one holiday in their country, conduct research, and create a group slide presentation to teach the rest of the class what they have learned. Optional graphic organizers are perfect for diverse learners and guided notes for students to use during presentations keep everyone engaged and learning!

Includes:

-Notes to teacher with pacing suggestions

-Detailed Project Directions and Easy grading rubric

-21 Spanish Speaking Country cards

-Graphic Organizer

-Presentation Notes

-Materials available in English and Spanish to make this work for all levels!

Perfect for giving yourself a break before Winter Break by letting your students teach each other! This is also a great project for those long, slow winter days that tend to drag in January and February.
