This vocabulary project comes with detailed guidelines and examples for creating Vocabulary Boards on the social media site. Great way to incorporate technology into across-curriculum lesson plans for building and enhancing vocabulary skills. Perfect for use as a research tool. This is an integrated project that focuses on the Persuade portion of Author's Purpose. I integrated this project with my science unit (Human Impacts on the earth) and my social studies unit (How people can help our planet). Students were tasked with creating an ad to persuade their audience to help with a world problem (Deforestation, Pollution, etc).

All of the graphic organizers we used, PowerPoints with ads and videos of world problems, and the checklist for the ad is included in this product. The students get to explore ads already created and review them. Then they research some of the world problems. After this they are placed in groups and then using a random wheel, are given a world problem. They then identify the impacts of the problem and come up with some solutions. Then they begin to plan their ad and once approved by their teacher, they began creating their ad!

In my classroom, my students wanted to try and create commercials. So we used the Canva app (usually free for educators) and the students worked together to create their commercials.

Celebrate Mother's Day by having your students create this adorable purse, booklet, and necklace. Students will be able to give it to someone who is special in their lives for Mother's Day. They may fill out their responses on kid-lined paper in the booklet to answer prompts. The booklet comes in primary lines and secondary lines. Students will enjoy creating a purse and necklace to give to someone they love. The purse has decorations for students to cut out and glue to the inside or the front. They can also make the decorations have a 3-Dimesional effect if they choose by simply cutting on the dotted lines and folding on the solid lines. This project is super easy to assemble.

Are you looking for an interactive, student-led activity/ assessment for the end of Matt Haig's The Midnight Library?

This file contains two different packets of Socratic Seminar packets- packet A and packet B. Each packet contains three different discussion questions that require students to answer and provide two quotes from the text to back up their answers. Students are also required to come up with three additional questions they will ask if there’s time in their seminar. Finally, the packet has a page where each student will monitor a partner in the opposite circle. They will make a check each time their partner speaks, and paraphrase meaningful comments their partner makes. The file also contains a rubric for you to use while your students are discussing!

When you print out the file, you’ll see packet A on the top half of the sheet, packet B on the bottom half, and then the rubric as the last page of the file. Remove the rubric and print one out for each of your students. Copy the rest of the pages, cut them in half, and staple them. Each student will receive one half-sheet booklet; packet A or packet B.

Give your students adequate time to plan for their Seminar! I usually give them a full class period (40 minutes for me), but you could have them do it for homework, or over the course of a few days. The day of the Seminar, you’ll assign partners with opposite packets. Let A discuss for as long as they need (usually 30-ish minutes for me!), then flip-flop your circles and have B discuss afterwards.

My students LOVE Socratic Seminars! I have found the fishbowl discussion format works much better when you give each group three different questions so you don’t hear the same discussion two times, which is how this product is set up. I have used Socratic Seminars in small literature circle groups, as well as with the whole class at once. Please ask if you have questions!

A Mahatma Gandhi Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting a new topic, Black History Month, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills or in Social Studies.

The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Mahatma Gandhi and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important historical events from the 1900s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the invention of language as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. This rubric looks at 6 different areas when students are being assessed on writing a research report. The areas that are reviewed on the rubric are as follows: research report topic and flow - opening and closing relate with one another, using quotations throughout from any sources used, research materials used relate to topic researched, staying on task, grammar/punctuation/spelling, and working with others. This rubric scores research report writing assignment out of 18 possible points. The rating scale use is a 3, 2, 1, & 0.
