Hatchet Novel Study - With Lesson Plans and Slideshow

By A Teachers Sidekick

This is a novel study of Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. In this product, there are completed lesson plans (and a blank one if you need to write your own), a slideshow that includes everything for each chapter (introduction, review of content, copy of the doodle notes, copy of the end of chapter activity/discussion outline, and the closure question), the Doodle Notes outline for each chapter, and the End of Chapter/Discussion activities. This novel study is for 4th-grade to 7th-grade students.

In this novel study, students will practice central idea/supporting details, writing summaries, citing evidence from a text, making inferences, analyzing figures of speech, describing story elements, cause/effect text structure, problem/solution text structure, and multiple opportunities to practice discussions with their classmates.

A large part of this novel study is discussion-based. I have included a slide on the slideshow where you will put your classroom expectations for discussions. There are also times for the introduction to the chapter, you will start with a whole group discussion. (I would maybe recommend turn and talks if you use groups in your classroom)

I hope you enjoy it. Please send me any questions that you may have and please rate and review.

Script Writing | Video Production Course | Storytelling

By Reece's Tech Shop by Scott Reece

As a video production teacher, one of the most important parts of my class is to make sure that my students can write a script. Whether it’s the script for the daily news show or the script for a short film, the process is still the same...it’s basic writing. I take a week at the beginning of the semester to talk about script writing in general. Here are those plans.

Day 1 ~ Introduce the idea of movie scripts. Read some movie scripts. Links included to three movies.

Day 2 ~ Brainstorm your script. Work out details on Location.

Day 3 ~ Character Development

Day 4 ~ Introduce Synopsis

Day 5 ~ Write Synopsis and Share movie ideas

RACE Writing Google Slides Presentation | Graphic Organizer | Editable TEST PREP

By Christina Bush

Do your students struggle with answering text-dependent questions? Introducing them to the RACE writing strategy could be a total game-changer for you and your students!

RACE Stands For:

Restate the question

Answer all parts of the question

Cite evidence to support your answer

Explain how your evidence proves your answer

This Google Slides presentation is already put together for you and ready to be shown to your students! Each step of the RACE writing strategy is discussed in-depth, with easy-to-follow and color-coordinated components. Each slide contains a checklist for you to display while teaching this writing process!

The last four slides consists of a graphic organizer (still color-coordinated!) to help you put all of the steps together at the end! The first two of those slides use an example question and response, separated into each step, along with all of the steps put together into one well-constructed response. The last two slides are CUSTOMIZABLE for you to add your own question and response!

BONUS! Keep your presentation engaging with all of the fun transitions and animations already done for you! This product includes TWO separate Google Slides presentations - identical in content, but one of them is more interactive! While the other simply displays all of the information.
