Each task card gives a number bank and 5 target answers your students must create. Using each number in the bank only one time each, students work in teams of three to create all 5 expressions by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Let your 5th-grade students practice while having fun with this engaging order of operations find the hidden message activity. This activity will be a great way to review your lesson. Students will practice order of operations while they look for the hidden message. As they correctly answer the questions the mystery message will be revealed. I used it as a sub-plan in sixth grade and the kids loved it, they were so engaged!

Students enjoy this engaging activity involving Adding and Subtracting negative numbers. Students persevere to complete multi-step problems including negative numbers. Students will follow the order of operations to complete the problems as most problems include parentheses.

Students have fun revealing the picture created using correct answers. Students will troubleshoot incorrect answers and persevere in solving the problem correctly.

Self-checking as image is revealed by correct answers.

What's included:

This is a simple project, but it adds in real life scenario of what the cost is going out to eat. Students end up shocked at the cost of going out to eat! The students pick out a restaurant of their choice (can download the menu offline), "go out to eat" with three other family members, order, determine cost, sales tax and tip for a total of going out to eat for 4 people. This could be a group project with four students going out to eat and seeing what the cost is for each. Either way, it shows their decimal skills with basic math operations and gives them a new appreciation of going out to eat!

These mazes are designed so the student is able to work out each multiplication fraction problem so they can determine the correct direction to complete the maze. It is also designed for easy grading for the teacher.

PDF, Google Slides & PowerPoint versions as well as the answer key are included.

TIP: If you are using this maze for math centers, simply laminate and use dry erase markers. You can use Expo Cleaner with a Magic Eraser to clean off. After a while, it will leave residue and you may have to print and laminate another.

Do your students know how to properly make entries into a spreadsheet to keep track of their deposits and withdrawals? I have created an Excel and Google Sheets spreadsheet to make it easy for them. Each spreadsheet has 3 tabs - 1) showing them what I created, 2) a blank spreadsheets with headings, & 3) a black spreadsheet so they can follow the easy directions I have provided to create their own. What a great way for them to keep track of the money they receive, spend, and be able to balance their checking account!
