Survival Journal - Student Packet - End of Year Science Project

This project is great for the end of the year. That weird time between end of course tests and the school year end is challenging. The project is mostly self-paced and great for those days that you only see some classes throughout the day. Minimum materials are needed! 11x7 paper, lined, paper, the packet, and yarn!
Student will make a map, complete a packet, and write some journal entries on how they would survive if they were stranded on a deserted island.
This product is only the student packet. You will need the teacher slides for the chance cards. Purchase the BUNDLE to get both.
Tennessee State Standards
- 6.PS3.1 - Analyze the properties and compare the sources of kinetic, elastic potential, gravitational potential, electric potential, chemical, and thermal energy.
- 6.LS2.4 - Using evidence from climate data, draw conclusions about the patterns of abiotic and biotic factors in different biomes, specifically the tundra, taiga, deciduous forest, desert, grasslands, rainforest, marine, and freshwater ecosystems
- 6.ESS2.5 - Analyze and interpret data from weather conditions, weather maps, satellites, and radar to predict probable local weather patterns and conditions.
- 6.ESS3.2 - Investigate and compare existing and developing technologies that will utilize renewable and alternative energy sources.
NGSS - Middle School
- MS-LS2-1: Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availability on organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem
- MS-PS1-4: Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
- MS-ESS2-5: Collect data to provide evidence for how the motions and complex interactions of air masses results in changes in weather conditions.

In this product, students will make a food chain mobile. They will cut out the sun, producers, and consumers cards, they will then make 3 mobiles. They will make a mobile that includes a sun, producer, and carnivore, a mobile that includes a sun, producer, and herbivore, and a mobile that includes a sun, producer, and omnivore. Students can work individually or with a partner or a group to complete this activity. Students will then research if their animal is a carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore and will label the consumer.

Food Chains and Food Webs Project

In this product, students will have the opportunity to complete 2 projects - a food chain and and food web project. Students will cut out the pictures and will glue them on a poster board to make a good chain and a food web. When students have completed the food chain and food web project, there are 2 rubrics that will rate the students on each project. Rubric categories include the food chain/web display, food chain/web labeling, and staying on task.
