• experience the different practical, real-life applications of the theorem of Pythagoras.
• study Pythagorean triples and primitive Pythagorean triples.
• learn how to create their own Pythagorean triples and primitive Pythagorean triples.

The focus of many of the tasks is on problem solving and students will feel the satisfaction to solve real-life problems in a very unique way. Along the way students also discover some interesting Number Theory, through Pythagorean Triples and Primitive Pythagorean Triples and in the process they dust off substitution, factors, products, the multiplication tables and more.

This 7th Grade Geometry Mystery Project will have your students excited to review area, perimeter, surface area, volume and parallelogram angles! There is a printable and digital version of this project included! They will be solving 36 questions involving 7th grade geometry. They will get 6 clue sheets with 6 questions on each sheet. This project assesses students ability to draw rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids of given areas on a scaled grid. They will need to be able to use the area formulas to work backwards to find side lengths that fit the requirement for each animal and use the formulas to show that their area calculation is correct.

A detailed MYP Criterion D (Applying Mathematics in the Real World) Rubric is included.

I spent about 2 and a half 90 minute class periods on this project and many students needed to spend some time on it at home as well. I also included several days of activities I did to prepare my students for the skills they would need.
