Christmas ELA Escape Room Bundle - In Class & Digital

By Language Arts Excellence

This bundle includes the in-class and digital versions of our highly popular Christmas ELA Escape Rooms!

There is no wonder why escape rooms are so popular; they are engaging and encourage people to work together and think creatively in order to solve different puzzles... all while trying to beat the clock. Now, you can facilitate our Christmas ELA Escape Room in the classroom and at home for distance learning with this meticulously-crafted bundle. All tasks are skills-based so that with these fun lessons, learning is not sacrificed. Whether they are in school or at home, your students will be having so much fun that they won’t even realize the higher order thinking skills they are applying in the playing of these games!

How does it work?

Your students are stuck in their digital classroom and cannot leave for Christmas vacation until they solve 5 challenging Language Arts skills-based tasks about Christmas!

  • Fa-la-la-la Figurative Language: In the first task, students must identify the figurative language devices used in popular Christmas songs. Shaded boxes in the correct answers form the first code.
  • 'Twas the Night Before Christmas: In the second task, students must order the plot events of Clement Clarke Moore's famous poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, on Freytag's Pyramid. Once solved, corresponding letters reveal the second code.
  • Christmas Fun Facts: In the third task, students will read 8 fun facts about Christmas and must identify the parts of speech of underlined words within the passages. When matched correctly, shaded boxes will reveal the third code.
  • Xmas Around the World: In the fourth task, students must correct commonly confused words (like except and accept) in passages about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Once complete, they must unscramble shaded boxes to reveal the fourth code.
  • Encrypted Message: In the final task, students must solve an encrypted Christmas message using the codes and clues from the first four tasks. Then they must figure out the final line that completes the message. Once they write that on the final page, they can share the document with you (or sing it to you in the in-class version) and escape to Christmas vacation!

In-Class Escape Room Includes:

- Escape Room Basics

- Detailed Day-Of Instructions

- Escape Room Print Checklist

- Student Teams Chart

- Welcome Sign for Your Door

- Materials for 5 Tasks: task signs to be folded upright, task instructions (2 per page for easy printing), and necessary information to be kept at stations

Spanish Accidents & Injuries Activity Bundle for Speaking, Listening and Writing

By Specialty Spanish

Not sure how to start making proficiency a focus in your Spanish classes? Start here with this bundle of Spanish Accidents and Injuries Proficiency-Building Activities! Speaking, Writing and Listening are scaffolded and pre-differentiated with activities that stay with a familiar theme, Accidents and Injuries  The scaffolds and familiar theme help students find the courage they need to fully participate and truly build skills! Interpersonal Listening, Speaking and Presentational Writing Activities are all included!

Guided Conversations:

Guided Convos provide a scenario about a familiar topic and an outline for students to use to keep the conversation going.   Students work with a partner and choose the role of Person A or Person B. They can trade roles, trade partners, or even do the same exact conversation again!  They never turn out the same way!  Students report feeling much more confident and able to keep conversations going after practicing a few times!

These conversations have 2 different versions for Novice High students and 2 different versions for Intermediate Low students.

Integrated Listening & Speaking:

ILS activities are done alone.  Students will listen to a recording, and be given instructions for how to respond.  They might hear: “Tell me about….” Or “Ask me questions about…” .  These activities mimic the speaking/listening portion of many popular Seal of Biliteracy Tests.

There is a pre-made student activity that requires no language lab!  If you have a language lab or some other kind of recording software, the teacher script will allow you to record the audio for students if you desire.

There are 2 activities in this resource, each with 5 prompts.  They are designed so that the first activity is a bit easier and the 2nd one  a bit more challenging.  Use with different levels or at the beginning and end of a unit!

✍️Scenario Task Cards:

Scenario Task Cards are my go-to for lots of things!  I display one at the beginning of every class and ask students to take turns talking about the scenario.   But I also use them as a lesson plan for a class activity!  I have students change partners and have them tell a story about 5 times in a row, each time with a new scenario and a new partner.  Then students switch roles.  Listeners become the speakers.  Finally, sometimes I print the scenarios and ask students to write about them in class or for homework!

Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening are all included in these activities! Save money by getting all 4 no-prep culture activities together!

The Youth Hostels activity is a great one to use during a travel unit!  It contains a Google Slides presentation to explain what youth hostels are and what they look like.  It has a short video embedded so students can really see what youth hostels can offer.  There is a reading activity linked in (with an answer key) as well!  This activity is geared for students in Years 2, 3 and 4.  Read more HERE.

Vacaciones en España focuses on a trip to the beach town of Benidorm, on the West Coast of Spain.  This Google Slides presentation contains vibrant photos of real people, which makes it engaging for students.  Each slide comes with text to explain what they’re seeing. Within the presentation are links to reading, writing, speaking and listening activities.  This activity is great for a travel theme and when students are starting to learn the past tense! Read more HERE.

Avila is a similar format to Vacaciones en España. The Google Slides™ presentation contains original photographs from Ávila, Spain, a beautiful and medieval city to the north of Madrid. Each slide contains text taking students through Ávila’s past (its incredible walls, towers and cathedral) and present-day life with some views of the city!  The text is mainly written in both present and past (preterite and imperfect) and therefore is great for Years 2, 3 and 4. Read more HERE.

The Escape Room is a student favorite! It comes in a Spanish and English version, and students must follow the clues to help solve a crime.  The clues take them all around Spain where they will learn about various aspects of the culture.  Each clue they solve reveals the next clue! This is so much fun for students!  This activity is already differentiated and therefore appropriate for all levels of Spanish! Read more HERE.
