Are your students ready for invierno? Have some fun with these Spanish activities for Writing, Speaking and Listening! Use the winter season to your advantage as students practice their interpretive and interpersonal skills as they talk about winter where they live and learn about winter activities in other parts of the world!

What’s included?

Authentic listening activities for Spanish class can be so hard to find! We want our students to practice their listening skills but we don’t want to spend an hour searching for a good video! This YouTube video is about winter in Chile. A young person takes us around his city and explains what winter is like there. To check comprehension, students will answer questions as they watch. Students will make comparisons and discover similarities and differences between their own experience and the speaker’s experience in Chile. An answer key is also included!

These Spanish Task Cards are geared towards winter activities, vacations and winter holidays. Situation Task Cards are a great way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students talking and using language creatively! (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)

There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. The task cards come in 3 versions! First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class. The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version. Slides come with helpful vocab that students may need to discuss the scenario.

These winter-themed task cards feature scenarios for present, past and future time frames. Google Slides can be modified if you need to change something to meet your students’ needs!

Also included is a peer feedback sheet and a self-assessment sheet and a vocab list for both Winter Vocab and Christmas Vocab!

These Winter Writing Prompts for Spanish classes solve a number of your challenges! Your students can work together in groups to write about Christmas and Winter Vacation, and it turns into a fun competition where everyone learns! AND- you only correct ONE paper per group!! Students help each other improve their writing as they try to increase creativity, detail, sophistication and accuracy, all while having fun! These writing prompts can also be used individually. Embed culture and traditions into your writing practice! There are 3 prompts for Novice High level students and 3 for Intermediate Low students. Scaffolds such as vocab lists, sophistication word charts and a graphic organizer are all included!

How can I use this product?

Play the video for the class on a projector or Smartboard
Assign the video via Google Classroom or other learning platform
Assign the comprehension questions by printing or posting to a learning platform
Use this as a class activity, homework or assessment!
Let students choose their writing prompt to increase engagement
Allow students to use the scaffolds they need to be successful
Consider making this writing a group challenge (Teacher instructions included!)

A link to a YouTube video about winter in Chile. The speaker is a young person to whom our high school students can relate (9 minutes)

Questions in the comprehension activity are in English. I did this on purpose so that students cannot simply copy what they hear (and potentially not understand what it means)

Doing a Spanish unit on accidents and injuries? Here are 3 NO PREP activities to help your students build their proficiency! Interpersonal Speaking is targeted with Partner Guided Conversations, Integrated Listening and Speaking activities, and Open-Ended Task Cards. These resources will give them both support and freedom to use their Spanish in creative ways!

Do your Spanish students need some help with interpersonal speaking? Are they struggling to have conversations in Spanish? Let’s give them some guided support with these 4 partner conversations about accidents and injuries! Both students will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions as part of a conversation, but with a lot of scaffolding to build confidence.

The Integrated Listening and Speaking Activities don’t require a partner. They mimic the Seal of Biliteracy tests, like AAPPL, by having students listen to a prompt and recording their response. There are 2 activities with 5 prompts each.

The Open-ended Task Cards provide 20 different scenarios about accidents and injuries. Students can tell stories to and with partners, record their stories, or write them! The scenarios come in 3 versions: for display on a SmartBoard/projector, printable in color and printable in black and white. You can use these as a daily warm up, for a whole class or even for an assessment!

Your Spanish students will look forward to working together to create writing that meets and exceeds the standards you’re looking for! Avila is a similar format to Vacaciones en España. The Google Slides™ presentation contains original photographs from Ávila, Spain, a beautiful and medieval city to the north of Madrid. Each slide contains text taking students through Ávila’s past (its incredible walls, towers and cathedral) and present-day life with some views of the city! The Escape Room is a student favorite! It comes in a Spanish and English version, and students must follow the clues to help solve a crime. The clues take them all around Spain where they will learn about various aspects of the culture. Each clue they solve reveals the next clue! This is so much fun for students! Speaking, Writing and Listening are scaffolded and pre-differentiated with activities that stay with a familiar theme, Accidents and Injuries The scaffolds and familiar theme help students find the courage they need to fully participate and truly build skills! Guided Conversations:

Guided Convos provide a scenario about a familiar topic and an outline for students to use to keep the conversation going. Students work with a partner and choose the role of Person A or Person B. They can trade roles, trade partners, or even do the same exact conversation again! They never turn out the same way! Students report feeling much more confident and able to keep conversations going after practicing a few times!

These conversations have 2 different versions for Novice High students and 2 different versions for Intermediate Low students.

Integrated Listening & Speaking:

ILS activities are done alone. Students will listen to a recording, and be given instructions for how to respond. They might hear: “Tell me about….” Or “Ask me questions about…” . These activities mimic the speaking/listening portion of many popular Seal of Biliteracy Tests.

There is a pre-made student activity that requires no language lab! If you have a language lab or some other kind of recording software, the teacher script will allow you to record the audio for students if you desire.

There are 2 activities in this resource, each with 5 prompts. They are designed so that the first activity is a bit easier and the 2nd one a bit more challenging. Use with different levels or at the beginning and end of a unit!

✍️Scenario Task Cards:

Scenario Task Cards are my go-to for lots of things! I display one at the beginning of every class and ask students to take turns talking about the scenario. But I also use them as a lesson plan for a class activity! I have students change partners and have them tell a story about 5 times in a row, each time with a new scenario and a new partner. Then students switch roles. Listeners become the speakers. Finally, sometimes I print the scenarios and ask students to write about them in class or for homework!

Want your Spanish students to learn about Day of the Dead , but reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class? Turn it into a game! This mystery-solving reading about Día de Muertos goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery! This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher! Use the same lesson plan for all of your classes, regardless of level, because your differentiation is already done!

Students investigate with Maria, a young person from Mexico, while she tries to understand more about a former member of her town. He visits the townspeople all year, not just during Día de Muertos. Why can’t he rest in peace? While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”. Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of how/why he died. It’s so much fun!

After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students. There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a graphic organizer for students to learn more about the specific items related to Day of the Dead, a “tell me in your own words” activity, and a writing follow up where students use their reading comprehension and critical thinking to invent an explanation for who this lost soul was and why he died the way he did. Answer key to the True/False is also included. Best of all? If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!

The reading cards are written in English for your Novice classes, and Spanish for Intermediate classes. The questions are written for Novice in English and answers will be in English as well. And for Intermediate, the questions and answers will be in Spanish. The same for the instructions and mission! Students get the benefit of learning about a cultural event while using teamwork!

This Spanish Task Cards Bundle contains situations for Present, Past, Future and Present Subjunctive! Situation Task Cards are a great, NO PREP way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students using language creatively! They have open-ended prompts for students to use while speaking or writing. These Spanish Scenario Task Cards are designed to increase skill and confidence with creative speaking and writing! Scenario Task Cards are a great, NO PREP way to get your Spanish 2, 3 and 4 and even AP Spanish students speaking or writing every day! They have open-ended prompts for students to use to tell a story orally or on paper. (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)

First, this bundle includes 17 different themes! Consider your daily warm-up for the year DONE with no prep!

There are 20 different scenarios per theme which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. Each set of scenario cards come in 3 versions! First, a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class. (Perfect for a warm-up!) The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version.

Some cards provide helpful vocab that students may need to discuss the scenario. Some sets come with a vocab list that can be printed (maybe laminated) so that students can integrate related vocabulary that they may not know already.

These situation task cards feature scenarios perfect for practicing talking about many of the life events that are common to teens, and common to most Spanish curriculum and Seal of Biliteracy tests. When we unexpectedly went to distance learning, I had to scramble as an AP Spanish® teacher. My students did not have access to their textbooks or the audio that went with it. We used the Temas text, but I found that I had to adapt. So, my lesson plans are now based almost entirely on authentic materials that I have found and curated. I have created vocab lists around these materials and the activities that will go with them! There are times during the lesson plans where I offer a suggestion from something that is found in the Temas textbook, but these lessons can be used fully without those suggestions.

Along with the honor of teaching our most advanced Spanish students comes the burden of heavy correcting and tons of planning. We also have other preps. Having an entire year’s worth of curriculum, lesson plans, projects and assessments ready to go will save you an incredible amount of time and relieve some of the pressure that we face as teachers.

In my classes, we also review grammar and use the Avance text as a guide. I include a study guide and a grammar quiz in each unit, but the practice activities (if you want to review grammar in class) are not included.

Extremely well planned unit. Everything you need is included here. I teach 3 different levels of Spanish and it is hard for me to revamp lesson plans. We use the textbook TEMAS at my school site but the readings can be very dry. I like how this unit incorporates soooo many resources that are authentic.

I am definitely going to purchase more units. I wish there was a discounted bundle with all units because I would buy it!
