Are your students ready for invierno? Have some fun with these Spanish activities for Writing, Speaking and Listening! Use the winter season to your advantage as students practice their interpretive and interpersonal skills as they talk about winter where they live and learn about winter activities in other parts of the world!

What’s included?

Authentic listening activities for Spanish class can be so hard to find! We want our students to practice their listening skills but we don’t want to spend an hour searching for a good video! This YouTube video is about winter in Chile. A young person takes us around his city and explains what winter is like there. To check comprehension, students will answer questions as they watch. Students will make comparisons and discover similarities and differences between their own experience and the speaker’s experience in Chile. An answer key is also included!

These Spanish Task Cards are geared towards winter activities, vacations and winter holidays. Situation Task Cards are a great way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students talking and using language creatively! (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)

There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. The task cards come in 3 versions! First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class. The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version. Slides come with helpful vocab that students may need to discuss the scenario.

These winter-themed task cards feature scenarios for present, past and future time frames. Google Slides can be modified if you need to change something to meet your students’ needs!

Also included is a peer feedback sheet and a self-assessment sheet and a vocab list for both Winter Vocab and Christmas Vocab!

These Winter Writing Prompts for Spanish classes solve a number of your challenges! Your students can work together in groups to write about Christmas and Winter Vacation, and it turns into a fun competition where everyone learns! AND- you only correct ONE paper per group!! Students help each other improve their writing as they try to increase creativity, detail, sophistication and accuracy, all while having fun! These writing prompts can also be used individually. Embed culture and traditions into your writing practice! There are 3 prompts for Novice High level students and 3 for Intermediate Low students. Scaffolds such as vocab lists, sophistication word charts and a graphic organizer are all included!

How can I use this product?

Play the video for the class on a projector or Smartboard
Assign the video via Google Classroom or other learning platform
Assign the comprehension questions by printing or posting to a learning platform

A link to a YouTube video about winter in Chile. The speaker is a young person to whom our high school students can relate (9 minutes)

Questions in the comprehension activity are in English. I did this on purpose so that students cannot simply copy what they hear (and potentially not understand what it means)

Doing a Spanish unit on accidents and injuries? Here are 3 NO PREP activities to help your students build their proficiency! Interpersonal Speaking is targeted with Partner Guided Conversations, Integrated Listening and Speaking activities, and Open-Ended Task Cards. These resources will give them both support and freedom to use their Spanish in creative ways!

Do your Spanish students need some help with interpersonal speaking? Are they struggling to have conversations in Spanish? Let’s give them some guided support with these 4 partner conversations about accidents and injuries! Both students will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions as part of a conversation, but with a lot of scaffolding to build confidence.

The Integrated Listening and Speaking Activities don’t require a partner. They mimic the Seal of Biliteracy tests, like AAPPL, by having students listen to a prompt and recording their response. There are 2 activities with 5 prompts each.

The Open-ended Task Cards provide 20 different scenarios about accidents and injuries. Students can tell stories to and with partners, record their stories, or write them! The scenarios come in 3 versions: for display on a SmartBoard/projector, printable in color and printable in black and white. You can use these as a daily warm up, for a whole class or even for an assessment!

Spanish writing prompts, especially when you make them into a group challenge, are a great way to get your Spanish 2, 3 or students writing, improving and learning from others!

Your Spanish students will look forward to working together to create writing that meets and exceeds the standards you’re looking for! Spanish Teachers! Do your Spanish students struggle to form, understand and answer questions? This bundle of resources is a great way to do a mini unit on questions! A presentation, Task Cards and Writing Activities will ensure students practice all skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).

The Google Slides™ lesson with Pear Deck™ makes teaching students how to formulate and answer questions fun and engaging! The slideshow shows students how questions can be worded in Spanish, both with and without interrogatives. It gives them a hint for the AAPPL test for the Seal of Biliteracy regarding questions, and there are multiple places in the presentation where students can interact and respond. This is great for keeping students engaged, but also lets the teacher know if students are understanding the presentation!

Included in this presentation about questions are 3 writing activities for your students to practice and apply what they’ve learned! Students can do the activities alone or in groups, or one of each! The activity I use as a group task is differentiated for different skill levels!

The Question Task Cards can be printed out or displayed digitally. Each of the 20 cards asks students to create 5 questions related to a topic. The topics are varied, and include themes that most Spanish students are familiar with: family, food, school, favorites, etc. I like to use these as a warm-up for class. And task cards can be used to ask students to write down their questions or to ask a partner! They’re so versatile and can be used over and over and in just about any level of Spanish!

Avila is a similar format to Vacaciones en España. The Google Slides™ presentation contains original photographs from Ávila, Spain, a beautiful and medieval city to the north of Madrid. Each slide contains text taking students through Ávila’s past (its incredible walls, towers and cathedral) and present-day life with some views of the city! The clues take them all around Spain where they will learn about various aspects of the culture. Each clue they solve reveals the next clue! This is so much fun for students! Is there Spring Fever in the air? These activities will get your Spanish students speaking, writing and writing about primavera in a variety of engaging ways! Practice interpretive listening, presentational and interpersonal speaking and writing while keeping students producing lots of Spanish!

Use these resources in all of your levels! They’re already differentiated! Those days when you’re just exhausted, progress reports are due, you are correcting benchmarks,,.... Do your Spanish students struggle in interpersonal speaking and conversations? Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students? Use these IPA activities to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy! Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go! Each theme comes with 2 activities with 5 audio links for each, for a total of 10 listening prompts. Students listen to the audio and record a logical response. They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”.

Each activity has a teacher script that allows you to correct with ease or even record your own voice if you choose. There are lots of notes and ideas for teachers so you know just how to use this activity! Finally, students can self-assess with the included rubric. Not sure how to start making proficiency a focus in your Spanish classes? Start here with this bundle of Spanish Accidents and Injuries Proficiency-Building Activities! Speaking, Writing and Listening are scaffolded and pre-differentiated with activities that stay with a familiar theme, Accidents and Injuries The scaffolds and familiar theme help students find the courage they need to fully participate and truly build skills! Interpersonal Listening, Speaking and Presentational Writing Activities are all included!

Guided Conversations:

Guided Convos provide a scenario about a familiar topic and an outline for students to use to keep the conversation going. Students work with a partner and choose the role of Person A or Person B. They can trade roles, trade partners, or even do the same exact conversation again! They never turn out the same way! Students report feeling much more confident and able to keep conversations going after practicing a few times!

These conversations have 2 different versions for Novice High students and 2 different versions for Intermediate Low students.

Integrated Listening & Speaking:

ILS activities are done alone. Students will listen to a recording, and be given instructions for how to respond. They might hear: “Tell me about….” Or “Ask me questions about…” . These activities mimic the speaking/listening portion of many popular Seal of Biliteracy Tests.

There is a pre-made student activity that requires no language lab! If you have a language lab or some other kind of recording software, the teacher script will allow you to record the audio for students if you desire.

There are 2 activities in this resource, each with 5 prompts. They are designed so that the first activity is a bit easier and the 2nd one a bit more challenging. Use with different levels or at the beginning and end of a unit!

✍️Scenario Task Cards:

Scenario Task Cards are my go-to for lots of things! I display one at the beginning of every class and ask students to take turns talking about the scenario. But I also use them as a lesson plan for a class activity! I have students change partners and have them tell a story about 5 times in a row, each time with a new scenario and a new partner. Then students switch roles. Listeners become the speakers. Finally, sometimes I print the scenarios and ask students to write about them in class or for homework!
