Comparing Systems of Linear Equations: Grade 8 Math

By EZMath

Want to know if your 8th grade math students can tell when a system of linear equations has one solution, no solution, or infinitely many solutions? How about if they know when to use elimination or substitution strategically?

This presentation includes 10 questions (23 slides total) that has students work in groups to determine which statement is true between two given systems of equations. Which system has no solution? Which system has infinitely many solutions? Which system is better suited for the elimination method? Teams must be able to determine the answer through visual inspection, then back up their answers verbally.

Great as a review activity before an exam, or as a mid-unit formative assessment to track progress towards mastery.

This lesson also includes a quick paper/pencil exit ticket students can do individually so you can assess each students' mastery, with answer key included.

Included in Activity:

- Link to Google Slide Deck for classroom presentation

- Complete directions for how I like to run the activity

- Printable student answer choice cards

- Printable student Exit Ticket

- Complete Exit Ticket solutions

SCAVENGER HUNT Linear Inequalities

By Candy Apple Class Aids

Unlock the Fun in Learning Linear Inequalities!

Engage your students with an exciting kinesthetic activity designed specifically for mastering linear inequalities! With 15 interactive stations, this engaging learning activity will get your students moving and thinking critically.

How It Works:

  • Start with a Student Sheet: Each student receives a scavenger hunt sheet to track their progress. Students may select where to begin, or you may assign them to a particular station.
  • Solve and Record: At each poster, students solve the challenge problem at the bottom of the poster, record their answer on the student recording sheet, and find their next destination based on their answer.
  • Explore and Discover: Once students find their answer, they are going to “sprint” (or walk calmly ☺) to the poster with their answer at the top of it.
  • Collaborate and Compete: As they sprint (or walk calmly) to new stations, they can work cooperatively while reinforcing key concepts.

Why Choose Our Scavenger Hunt?

Promotes Active Learning: Keeps students engaged through movement and

collaboration.

Reinforces Key Skills: Focuses on understanding linear inequalities in a fun,
interactive way.

Flexible Setup: Perfect for any classroom environment—adaptable to your
teaching style!
