Here's how the QUEL DOMMAGE game works:

STEP 1

• Print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out.
• Laminate the cards

STEP 2

• Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams.
• Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
• Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with pronouns (for example) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box.
• The student with the most game cards at the end is the winner.

Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. You can easily modify this game to play it with all levels!

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

30 question cards are included in each set. Almost all of the est-ce que questions are asked in the tu form and require students to reply using je. Some of the questions encourage oui and non responses, but never without pushing for a bit more information like asking pourquoi. The questions include le présent, le passé composé et le futur proche.

There are many ways you can use these speaking prompt cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays.

➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

Your French students need to practice conjugating French verbs, you need some easy and no-prep activities that will keep them engaged and having fun while learning. Look no further! Students already know how to play "rock, paper, scissors" in English, so why not have some fun with "pierre, feuille, ciseaux" while mastering verb conjugations in your French classroom?

Students play in pairs. They play quick games of "pierre, feuille, ciseaux" to see who will be able to move forward a certain number of spaces on the game board.

The following sentences are written in French on the game board, and it’s fun way to get them speaking more French during the game if they say them when they win:

⭐ La pierre écrase les ciseaux.

⭐ La feuille enveloppe la pierre.

⭐ Les ciseaux découpent la feuille.

When a student lands on a space, he conjugates and translates the verb written on it using the subject pronoun provided. Winning is easy, as long as you're the first one to reach la fin!

This resource includes teacher instructions written in English, which makes it an easy activity for you to leave for a non-French speaking substitute teacher on days when you can't be there.
