8th Grade Thanksgiving Projects (by date, oldest first)

Need a fun way to introduce Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to upper elementary or middle school students? This great lesson incorporates Thanksgiving themed art as students learn the basics of either Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. First, they'll create a quick pixel art from a given example and then they'll create their own! A full tutorial is included for both Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. These are also fun lessons to use if you just need something for a one day lesson.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

This project has students using real-world math skills to learn to perform calculations to plan a Thanksgiving dinner. They will use formulas (included) to learn how to compute quantities in recipes, how to determine percentages and use fractions, and other basic math skills used in everyday activities.

This Algebra 1 Thanksgiving Escape Room is completely SELF CHECKING (and printable) and includes 40 questions to help solve the mystery of the missing thanksgiving dinner items! Students will complete 4 multiple choice questions in each of the 10 rooms covering math skills that are covered in Algebra 1, including order of operations, linear equations, exponents, GCF, Square Roots, evaluating expressions, inequalities, distributive property, combining like terms, and linear proportions. After they solve the questions they will take their letter answer choice in order and write it under the locked door.

Before they can move to the next room they will go to the LOCK DECODER (Google Sheet) and put their code in. If the box turns green they can move to the next room. If the box turns red they must find their error and try again!

Their FINAL CHALLENGE will be to create their own multiple choice question per topic, which a template is provided for.
