So, this lesson does NOT teach specific coping skills. Instead, it explains what is going on in the brain and body when stress is felt, how stress is natural and normal, and why use of coping skills is important to capitalize on stress when we need it. Teaching about stress as normal, and even positive, offers a validating and empowering approach to encouraging the use of positive coping skills.

The slides and worksheet are simple to increase comprehension and suit middle through high school students.

The Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Unit is part of my Field Trip Unit Series. The series was created with homeschoolers in mind, but can be adapted to be used in a classroom as well. Field trips are a great way to supplement learning, but often homeschoolers don’t get any background information on the location of their field trip and want to enrich their experience by expanding the learning at home before and after the trip. These units help give information and fun activities before and after the field trip.

These units are available in PreK/Kinder, Elementary, and Middle & High School levels. All Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Units follow the same outline and the parent/teacher info sheet is the same for all three so that if you have children of several ages, you can seamlessly teach them together. Who doesn't love to travel? Engage students as they plan a vacation to their dream destination.

The “Plan a Vacation” project utilizes either MS Office (Word and Excel) or Google Apps/Workspace (Docs, Sheets) to allow students to build skills in those programs along with skills in Internet research, reading, writing and critical thinking. In these projects, students research a vacation destination of their choice and complete a research sheet using MS Word or Google Docs. They utilize either MS Excel or Google Sheets to create a budget for their trip, and finally create a tri-fold Travel Brochure using a choice of MS Word, Google Docs, or Canva (www.canva.com) to share information about their chosen destination. Full instructions and grading rubrics are provided for each portion of the project, along with a sample budget spreadsheet (and answer key), and a sample brochure. Links to tutorials for all programs are provided in the student resources section, and a Quick Start Guide for Canva is also included.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students.

Materials Required

· Access to computers for each student (or pair of students) with Internet and either MS Office (Word, Excel) or Google Apps/Workspace (Docs, Sheets).

· Sample travel brochures (optional) for ideas on layout

· Research: 2 (50 minute) class periods

This activity fosters emotional literacy by supporting students to:

Therapeutic Intervention for Teenagers encouraging mindfulness, recognising strengths, ways of coping, support system, core values and beliefs, protective systems and public and private self. This is a great self-reflective and growth mindset resource to support teenagers by not only focusing anger management but all of the contributing functions of behaviours in a therapeutic, non-threatening and empowering way.

A group-based creative intervention explores self-esteem helping teenagers and adults develop personal insights about their sense of belonging in the world.

This is a hands-on activity which only requires group members to have a piece of paper and pens or colored pencils. The activity takes approximately 30 minutes long with additional time needed post activity for the reflection questions and rating statement worksheets.

Coping strategies and skills are behavioural reactions that an individual utilizes to cope, deal and adapt with difficult situations. Coping strategies come in many forms – some might be helpful, and some are unhelpful.

This resource includes 42 cards which include a variety of helpful and unhelpful coping skills which are included on individual cards. These can be discussed and used to explore and differentiate between what are healthy and helpful coping strategies verses unhelpful and unhealthy coping strategies.

These Coping Strategies (both helpful and unhelpful) include a variety of strategies which fall under the categories of diversions, social/interpersonal, cognitive, physical, spiritual and limit setting coping strategies.

This resource has been developed for teenage students to brainstorm and reflect on some risky behaviours and consider the negative and positives of the situation. This resource includes blank templates at the end of the resource for students to complete their own brainstorming maps.

This resource includes considering the behaviours: unprotected sex, meeting up with strangers, gambling, prescribed medication, destroying property and breaking good behaviour bond. What is included in not an exhaustive list but a start to get students to start reflecting on their individual circumstances and what consequences for each of these behaviours would look like.
