Comparing Systems of Linear Equations: Grade 8 Math
By EZMath
Want to know if your 8th grade math students can tell when a system of linear equations has one solution, no solution, or infinitely many solutions? How about if they know when to use elimination or substitution strategically?
This presentation includes 10 questions (23 slides total) that has students work in groups to determine which statement is true between two given systems of equations. Which system has no solution? Which system has infinitely many solutions? Which system is better suited for the elimination method? Teams must be able to determine the answer through visual inspection, then back up their answers verbally.
Great as a review activity before an exam, or as a mid-unit formative assessment to track progress towards mastery.
This lesson also includes a quick paper/pencil exit ticket students can do individually so you can assess each students' mastery, with answer key included.
Included in Activity:
- Link to Google Slide Deck for classroom presentation
- Complete directions for how I like to run the activity
- Printable student answer choice cards
- Printable student Exit Ticket
- Complete Exit Ticket solutions
If you enjoy this activity, please check out my Level Up products, or my Team Target Review series, which encourages group work and rich math discussion.

Drawing Art: Mandala Design. Fall/Autumn.
By Art Shack by JB
Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Mandala Design artwork was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I did a demo and taught the class how to use a ruler and a yardstick. Measurements and Math was a strong focus of the lesson. Next, students spent the rest of the first lesson brainstorming an idea for a stencil (¼ of their full Mandala Design. I taught the students how to rotate their stencil to get a Radial Design. Students started on their Final Copy paper and outlined their drawing in sharpie marker. We used large windows to trace our stencils on the final. Students used colored pencils, colored sharpies, or watercolor paint to color their Mandala Design. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

Finding Slope from Two Points Mystery Picture Activity
By Matemaths
Let your students practice while having fun with this engaging no-prep and self-checking finding slope activity. Students will find the slope of a line (using the slope formula) given two points in these 20 problems using Google Sheets. I used it as a sub-plan in eighth grade and the kids loved it. As they correctly answer the questions a mystery picture will be revealed.
This resource works well as independent practice, homework, early finishers, extra credit or even as an assignment to leave for the substitute.
Solutions are included in the second sheet.
Due to the limitations of Microsoft Excel functionality, this resource must be used in Google Sheets only at this time.
