This awesome resource with the classic story of la Bella y la Bestia is an easy-to-use and low-prep way to practice the preterite and the imperfect, along with reading comprehension skills. Students love these stories because they are stories that they are already familiar with, making them more comprehensible, turning this tricky grammar topic from dry and boring to engaging and fun!

The familiar story of Beauty and the Beast is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish with easy differentiation.

This file includes two versions of the same story:

• Version A has the verbs already conjugated, and the students must choose between the preterite and imperfect tenses of the verb.
• Version A also includes true/false comprehension questions and students must correct the false statements.
• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must first decide which tense to use and then fill in the blank with the correct conjugated form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish.

Each version of the story with questions is three pages long. The two different versions make differentiation simple!

The 1st reading is about how to live a healthy lifestyle. It’s perfect for themes about health, diet and exercise.  Working in groups helps reduce anxiety about answering questions while at the same time allows students to share their reading strategies with others.  The teacher has comprehension questions about the reading (with answers included) so that each set of students has a chance to answer multiple questions.  

Reading 2 is about a teen who convinces her parents to let her have a pet.  Reading 3 is a conversation between 2 teens about an upcoming concert. These themes are taken from the published list of topics from ACTFL that students encounter on the AAPPL Test.

50 French passé composé task cards - Regular verbs

French passé composé tense task card set with 50 different cards to get your students moving around the classroom while practicing the passé composé tense of regular -ER, -IR, and -RE verbs. Only regular verbs are used in this set of task cards. Students will complete various tasks and write their answers on the answer recording sheet. Some cards will have them conjugating in the passé composé, others will have them filling in the blanks, writing original sentences about the past, answering multiple choice questions and more. Do your Spanish students need some help with interpersonal speaking?  Are they struggling to have conversations in Spanish?  Let’s give them some guided support with these partner conversations about Hobbies & Free Time!  Both students will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions as part of a conversation, but with a lot of scaffolding to build confidence.  Guided conversations provide general guidance about how to keep the conversation going without telling students exactly what to say. 

There are 4 guided conversations, so both students will have a chance to ask and answer questions in a conversational way.  Two versions are for Novice High students and 2 versions are for Intermediate students.  

These conversations focus on Hobbie & Free Time mainly in the present time frame. 

Who can use this product?

• Spanish students in year 2 and up

How can I use this product?

• Students will work in partners to participate in a guided conversation
• Students will trade roles so both can practice asking questions and answering questions
• Teachers can assign these conversations as practice or as an assessment
• Students can practice the same conversations with multiple partners to increase comfort and proficiency!
