Get students involved in the learning process through this lesson China's Historical One Child Policy: Creating a Population Density Cartogram. Students will not only learn about the cause and effect of China's One Child Policy of 1979, but will strengthen their knowledge of map creation and reading skills, specific to a cartogram.

Working in collaborative groups, team members will participate in a group reading activity an article on China’s 1979 One-Child Policy Act entitled Too Many In The Family. This article will address the history behind the law, the policy incentives, disobeying the policy, and expectations of the rule. Students to express their thoughts on the topic after the reading and use high-level thinking skills.

In addition, students will have fun collaborating, examining and learning how to read cartograms by creating their own cartogram that reflects the current population of China. This brings the past into the present. Students will need graph paper, colored pencils, a map, and a calculator for this activity.

While this lesson focuses on the original One-Child Policy Act of 1979, there have been additional child policy acts passed since 1979 — the first one being the 2015 Two-Child Policy Act, following the 2021 Three-Child Policy Act. This DIY hands-on project takes students through the process of collecting, sharing, representing and analyzing qualitative data. Students collect data on the brand, color and type of cars and then present their data in bar and circle graphs.

This is a 3-part assignment that incorporates both individual and group assignments. Groups of students (4-6) are responsible for writing an individual monologue, a group script and a final monologue reflection. Students will take on the role of a character from a well known fairy tale. In the individual monologue, students will get to explore the perspective of their character and how the new dilemma a character is faced with should be solved. The group will then figure out a solution to the dilemma and will write a short script to show their resolution. After the group has resolved the dilemma, each character will have an opportunity to reflect on how their character feels about the outcome. Don't worry I've included some rubrics that you can use for each section too and some worksheets to help guide student thinking.

Looking for a fun and engaging way to teach Java programming? Look no further than "How'd You Make That!? Java Programming Labs: Pong! Designed with increasing levels of difficulty, this lab helps students develop their coding skills step-by-step. Students will create the classic game of Pong!

In Bounce Beginner, students will use the code provided to create the game. Much of the background coding has been done for them so they will be concentrating on creating and using objects and designing the game. Students will be given general direction, but creating the game will mostly be up to them. Introduction to Adobe Photoshop gives students a step-by-step tutorial to learn the beginning commands of Adobe Photoshop. After following the instruction (screen shots are included), students combine their “before” and “after” pictures into a simple PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to make grading easy. Finally, students complete a short creative activity to demonstrate their understanding of their learning. Additional links to other tutorials are also included in the lesson to assist learners, as needed. Instructions are for the paid PC version of Adobe Photoshop CC (2014 or 15), but are easily modifiable for Apple/MAC computers. This lesson was created for 8th grade students but is appropriate for any age group just starting out with Adobe Photoshop.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Writing a play is a perfect project that gives students time to write about an event that happened in their life or an event that they made up. Once they are finished, they can share it with different groups of people and have their friends play each character. This packet includes information to share with your students about what a play is, what steps to follow when writing the beginning, middle and end of a play, why we write a play, who we write a play for, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write with a play using a graphic organizer and an example of a play. AP Spanish® students will love this presentational speaking project for Unit 4, Science and Technology! The project contains specific directions, a rubric, teacher notes, a graphic organizer, an example presentation and a participation chart. The oral presentation is designed to be motivating, interesting and fun to students- both as presenters and as members of the audience! This project is fully customizable so that teachers can make adjustments to ensure that this project is just right for their students! It can be assigned digitally or printed.

Science has made some pretty big advances in recent times. Many people know a little something about cloned animals or genetically altered food. This project allows the members of your class to choose a current and interesting scientific advance, research it to understand both the basics and the details, to understand the benefits and drawbacks of the advance and teach the other members of their class about the topic! Included in this project are teacher notes where there are multiple suggestions for how to engage students both during their research and during their classmates' presentations. In person, we use the Smartboard to present the visuals. If you have a large class and prefer not to have all groups present live, students can record themselves presenting. Then, use one class period for students to view the presentations of others.

This project is INCLUDED in the FULL UNIT 4 Lesson plans. You can find the entire 6 week lesson plan unit linked below!
