The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

My students LOVE storyboards! They are a great resource for introducing basic story elements and summarizing, I use colorful file folders or large manila/construction paper. There are illustrations to color which are surrounded by dotted lines to make cutting easier. There are also interactive flaps for writing the beginning, middle and ending as well as places to write about the characters, setting and summary. This storyboard can be used as a companion activity for The Gingerbread Man.

You may hear about natural disasters often, but some of the deadliest disasters in world history have been environmental disasters caused by human activity. This lesson involves having your students investigate environmental disasters that have taken place on our planet. Their initial focus will be to examine the Chernobyl disaster in the Soviet Union. After closely exploring the historical background to this accident, students will then choose and research a different environment disaster, and create a Google Slide presentation to demonstrate their findings.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

Completed with a partner, students will analyze how writers use metaphors in poetry by looking at examples. The PDF provides multiple examples to guide students. They will then read and analyze a mentor poem and utilize the same structure to write their poem. They will love creating their poems and watching their ideas come to life! This rubric looks at 7 different areas when students are being assessed on writing a graphic novel. The areas that are reviewed on the rubric are as follows: parts of a graphic novel, graphic novel cover page details, staying on task, grammar/punctuation/spelling, visuals, and special lettering/speech balloons. This rubric scores writing a graphic novel out of 21 possible points. The rating scale use is a 3, 2, 1, & 0.
