Drawing Art: Jacob Lawrence Storefront Scene. Fall/Autumn.

By Art Shack by JB

Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Jacob Lawrence Storefront Scene was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. It is best to use 18 x 24 white paper for this unit, since this will be a rather large artwork. This unit should last 4-(50 minute) class periods. I allowed the use of crayon for larger areas on the paper (like the sky, road, sidewalk, and buildings). I allowed the use of colored pencils for small, detailed areas. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

MLK Day Crown Craft Templates - Black History Month Activities

By Mrs Wates Teaching Creations

Engage with your students in a powerful and meaningful activity using these MLK Crown/Hat Craft Templates, perfect for kindergarten and early elementary students. This engaging paper craft offers eight unique black and white crown designs that celebrate the themes of equality, peace, freedom and unity, resonating with Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision. Each template is adorned with iconic images and the inspiring words. Utilizing these MLK crowns in your classroom serves as a vibrant and interactive way to introduce students to the history of civil rights, encourage discussions about equality and dreams for the future, and honor the legacy of a great leader. Celebrate MLK Day with a hands on activity that leaves a lasting impression and promotes a message of hope and togetherness.

Ways to use this product:

  1. Commemorative Classroom Activity: Use the MLK crowns as part of a classroom activity to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Teachers can discuss MLK's life, his impact on civil rights, and his famous I Have a Dream speech. As students create their crowns, they can engage in conversations about equality, peace and unity.
  2. Multicultural and History Lessons: Incorporate the MLK crowns into lessons about multiculturalism and history. Teachers can use this craft to introduce or conclude a unit on civil rights, social justice, or African American history, helping students understand the historical context of MLK’s contributions.
  3. Art Integration: The crown craft activity can be a part of an art lesson where students learn about symbolism in art. They can discuss the symbols associated with MLK and the civil rights movement.
  4. School Assembly or Parade: Organize a school assembly or a mini-parade where students wear their MLK crowns. They can present what they've learned about MLK, recite parts of his speeches, or even put on a skit or a choral reading about his life and achievements.
  5. Character Education and Discussion: Use the crown-making activity as a starting point for discussions on character education topics such as respect, tolerance, and the importance of standing up for what is right. After creating the crowns, students can share their thoughts on how they can embody these values in their daily lives, inspired by MLK's example.
