French Pink Shirt Day FREEBIE

This quick and easy resource is for use near the end of the month of February to recognize Pink Shirt Day. The story behind this day is one that has a positive influence on students as they understand that it is not OK to bully EVER.

I hope you are able to use this resource in your class by quickly making copies and allowing students to use their creativity and unique perspectives to colour and decorate how they see fit.

Personally, I made copies onto pink printer paper in poster size 200% to make two big posters with the title 'Jour du chandail rose' and students have placed their Tshirts around the poster. Older students will also make theirs with a writing piece to explain their views on Pink Shirt Day in French.

How to use this resource:

1. Copy a set for students. I like to copy multiple sets (ie. 3 sets of 8 to insure that students sitting with one another do not have the same page next to them. I find this allows for more creative development as they do not copy their neighbour).

2. Let students colour and create and cut the shape of the Tshirt out

3. Display on a bulletin board or on the wall of your school

Teachers who are looking for French resources who want quick and easy NO PREP materials that their students will love. A fresh new look on a great idea and the best part is you just have to click 'print'.

Students love the clear lettering and can get creative using all the various pink writing materials in the class. I gave my students free reign of anything pink and they came up with their own unique designs.

Students are proud to be a part of a bigger project that they can all display with pride.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. French Pink Shirt Day Activity Pack

This quick and easy resource is for use near the end of the month of February to recognize Pink Shirt Day. The story behind this day is one that has a positive influence on students as they understand that it is NOT OK to bully EVER.

I hope you are able to use this resource in your class by quickly making copies and allowing students to use their creativity and unique perspectives to colour and decorate how they see fit.

Personally, I made copies onto pink printer paper in poster size 200% to make two big posters with the title 'Jour du chandail rose' and students have placed their T-shirts around the poster. Older students will also make theirs with a writing piece to explain their views on Pink Shirt Day in French.

How to use this resource:

1. Copy a set for students. I like to copy multiple sets (i.e. 3 sets of 8 to insure that students sitting with one another do not have the same page next to them. I find this allows for more creative development as they do not copy their neighbour).

2. Let students colour and create and cut the shape of the T-shirt out

3. Display on a bulletin board or on the wall of your school

4. Use writing sheets to create slogans, writing prompts, and a quick paragraph about why bullying is not OK

Writing prompts are the fast and easy No-Prep way of adding to your K-2 writing program. Aligned with the Science of Reading, students engage decoding and encoding skills. The vocabulary used in this resource follows a progression recommended by many school boards and is in lock step with what is being promoted by IDAPEL and ONLit websites for teaching French language in today's classrooms.

Once you have a grasp on all the simple sounds in French, the magic happens when you get students writing. They don't even notice that all the words used are from their very own memory banks and are all decodable words from past lessons.

World Autism Awareness Day Activity Pack

I love creating NO PREP activities when I can for my French teacher peeps! Sharing my resources with colleagues has been a practice since the beginning of my career and I think that’s what makes us all stick together and help one another out. How to use this resource:

1. Copy out pages, I like to copy out a set and then load them into the copier and make multiples that way students sitting side by side do not have the same work and they tend to be more creative with their colouring.

2. Set out as many pink colouring materials as you can and let the students go

3. I created a poster size pair of T-shirts and copied onto blue paper to make a display for World Autism Awareness Day 2024

4. Hang student artwork below your poster and display for the school to see

5. Use writing version to create slogans, sentences, or positive affirmations to raise awareness

Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Who can use this resource:

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. French Decodable texts that align with the Science of Reading and current available reading education concepts. The easy to use texts can be utilised in the classroom with little to no preparation. Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Whatever way you choose to use this resource, I am so grateful that you have given this item a try!

Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.

Texts are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.
