This student-tested lesson plan is designed to explore the rich traditions of Asian art, with a focus on the unique techniques and styles of Thangka scroll paintings.

Thangkas are traditional Tibetan Buddhist paintings depicting deities, scenes, or mandalas on cotton or silk appliqué. Throughout Asia, these exquisite scroll paintings are treasured for their spiritual significance and intricate craftsmanship. In our lesson, we will dive deep into the history and symbolism of Thangka art, highlighting its importance in Asian culture.

The project is divided into fourteen sections, including the front pages. Sections include Language/Population, Habitat/Geography, Family Structure, Government, and several others. Each section has a list of criteria and questions that must be answered to complete the section.

I would expect a single student to take about ten weeks, with a weekly goal (perhaps a little faster) of completing one section.

There is a score for each section and teacher info on ways to make it work.

The project contains a cover sheet, a teacher's page, two student pages and a sheet to help students select an appropriate civilization.

There is also a list of civilizations that have an abundance of information available on line.

A VJ Day Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting or finishing a World War II topic, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills or in Social Studies.

The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about VJ Day and World War II and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

This unit connects learning with technology to Social Studies. This is perfect for technology class or for use in a Social Studies or History classroom that wants to incorporate technology with a lesson. No download is required to use either Adobe Express (www.adobe.com/express) or Canva (www.canva.com) - both free products, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning. Alternatively, this lesson can be completed using MS Word/PowerPoint or Google Docs/Slides if the teacher prefers.

To begin the lesson, students complete a webquest to learn about the Civil War. Student handouts in both print and digital formats are included, along with an answer key for easy grading. Additionally, a wordsearch puzzle with answer key is included, perfect for early finishers or to include with the lesson.

Next, students are provided with a quick tutorial for both Canva and Adobe Express, as well as links to other resources to help them with their project. The tutorials are intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. Students create a timeline about the history of the civil war after conducting research. They use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet and also supplied in Adobe Express or Canva to create a finished presentation that explains the timeline of events during the Civil War and add their own opinions and insights to the project.

This is an excellent creative project to add to a unit on the Civil War or other social studies lessons on the growth and development of the United States. The project was created for grades 6-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.

Materials Required

· Access to computers for each student (or pair of students)

· Internet access

Project Duration (approximate)

· Introduction to the Lesson: Review expectations, overview of the program .5-1 (50 minute class period)

· WebQuest – 1 (50 minute) class period

· Word Search Puzzle – approximately 15-20 minutes

This product includes a research report template. Students will answer the following questions: name of president, when the president was born, when the president died, how many years in office the president was, how many terms the president served, who the vice president was at the time the president was in office, two challenges the president faced, two accomplishments the president achieved, and three interesting facts that were learned. There is a section for students to print out a picture or draw a picture of the president. At the end of the template, there is a section for resources as well.

There is an example provided at the end of the template as well that includes information about George Washington.

The students finished product could be made into a vertical poster (as seen in the thumbnail photo) and glue the black sections to the back of each page or cut the templates out and create a booklet.

You may hear about natural disasters often, but some of the deadliest disasters in world history have been environmental disasters caused by human activity. It includes two projects that are fast and fun. The first one is a current events mural. It includes the rubric, examples, and a guide. The second one is an Instagram mockup post. This, like the mural project, tends to be one of the students' favorite activities because it resonates with them. As a bonus, it includes an activity that helps generate a podcast outline. These activities can be completed quickly and are foolproof. They can be done at Spanish levels 2 through AP Spanish.

An invaluable educational resource for classrooms, libraries, and beyond, it brings history to life in a dynamic and engaging format, empowering students to connect with and learn from one of America's most influential figures during Black History Month and throughout the year.

In this lesson, students use critical thinking and research skills to determine how a specific form of technology evolved. Working with a partner or small group, students start with where their chosen technology was prior to 1900 and then take it through 5 more steps of evolution to the present day. Students use the Internet for research to determine what had to happen between each step to move their technology to the next iteration. Worksheets are provided for six high interest topics, with an editable blank form (PowerPoint) if the teacher chooses to add another topic (or let students choose a different topic). The worksheets are two pages (print front and back). Resources for the teacher and students include a short list of Internet sites as a starting point for each research topic. A sample completed worksheet is also included for one topic. Topics included are:

• How We Watch a Movie

• How We Take Photographs

• How We Communicate on the Telephone

• How We Research Information

• How We Tell Time

This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well.
