Students read or watch A Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, my students read A Christmas Carol and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas, for an engaging activity before the holiday. A Christmas Carol was a challenge for the students, so watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a fun distraction.

This active and engaging resource gets students moving and discussing. Students will make paper snowballs out of the provided cards. They will then use these for a snowball fight. When time is up, students will find a partner, uncrumple the paper, and have a discussion.

Students can reach connections and have discussions with the information they gather.

This is a fun seasonal Christmas and Winter Holiday geography activity that students will find engaging and fun!

This is a great lesson for the week before Winter/Holiday Break. Students will take a Christmas journey around the world! If you need an activity for 1-2 days, this lesson is easy to modify to the time limitations you may have. Not only will they have fun, but they will be learning to work together to complete the tasks! Every moment is a teaching moment.

This lesson takes students on a journey using Journey Cards to cities and towns around the world that have Christmas names. Students will work in teams and will use Google Earth Online to explore each location on the Journey Cards as well as practice plotting the absolute location of each location. Students will look at the location, the physical characteristics, and fun facts. Every moment is a teaching moment, even those days before the holiday break.

OBJECTIVES:

(1) The learner will plot the coordinates of towns with Christmas names on a coordinate plot map using latitude and longitude (Absolute Location).

(2) The learner will explore cities and towns around the world with Christmas and winter-themed names using Google Earth.
(3) The learner will identify the continent, hemisphere, physical features, and interesting physical or cultural facts related to each city or town.
(3) The learner will evaluate and compare the towns and cities' location, environment, and living conditions to determine where they would most and less likely live.

For first time BOOM Card™ users, the resource comes with an explanation of how to assign the cards to your class, and has lots of useful links to support you using the activity.

Both activities follow a similar format, with slight variances to the BOOM Cards version to allow the resource to be digital and self-marking.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Christmas and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about famous holidays, putting them in order from the earliest date in the year to the latest. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

This resource features all of the materials you need to conduct a Stations Activity to teach students about Hanukkah. The lesson involves movement, energy, creative thinking and most of all, collaboration. All tasks are Language Arts skills-based so that with this engaging lesson, learning is not sacrificed; in fact, students will come away with it with a greater understanding about the history an importance of Hanukkah.

How does it work?

Your students will work to complete 5 Language Arts-based tasks about Hanukkah in order to learn more about this important and beloved holiday.

• Origin Story: In the first task, students must correct incorrectly used homophones within the origin story of Hanukkah.

• Quote Worthy: In the second task, students must identify parts of speech within 7 quotes about Hanukkah.

• Figuratively Traditional: In the third task, students must identify figurative language woven into passages describing popular Hanukkah traditions.

• The Miracle: In the fourth task, students must answer multiple choice questions about the poem, The Miracle by Philip M. Raskin.

• Criss-Cross: In the fifth and final task, all students have learned throughout the stations activity will come together as they must fill out a crossword puzzle about Hanukkah. Once they have completed the puzzle and cracked the final code, they are done.

Looking for a no prep and engaging way to practice evaluating algebraic expression given the replacement? This winter activity, "The Elf and the Missin Key" Digital Escape Room will help your sixth graders practice this concept while having fun!

Based on the premise that the elf asks your help because he lost the cabin's key where all the Christmas gifts are stocked, your students will explore four different locations full of activities and hidden messages. After completing all the activities, they will enter responses to questions on a Google Form. If all responses are entered correctly, they will find the key!
