This is an overview of all categories, not an in-depth exploration. A in-deep museum for Fernando Botero and Frida coming soon. This is the perfect way to cover many important topics to give an overview of the Hispanic Influence

Want your Spanish students to learn about Day of the Dead , but  reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class?  Turn it into a game!  This mystery-solving reading about Día de Muertos  goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery!  This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!  

   Students investigate with Maria, a young person from Mexico, while she tries to understand more about a former member of her town.  He visits the townspeople all year, not just during Día de Muertos.  Why can’t he rest in peace?   While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”.  Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of how/why he died.   It’s so much fun! 

    After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students.  There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a graphic organizer for students to learn more about the specific items related to Day of the Dead, a “tell me in your own words” activity,  and a writing follow up where students use their reading comprehension and critical thinking to invent an explanation for who this lost soul was and why he died the way he did.  Answer key to the True/False is also included.  Best of all?  If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!

This engaging and **enjoyable **activity is designed to motivate students to **review the content **before an assessment on Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Through this Ancient Studies game, students will be prepared for the end of the unit. Or, choose to use this as an end-of-unit alternative assessment. Allow students to use their notes, andtextbooks or simply have them answer game questions to see what knowledge they have retained.

Students will be able to identify:

• Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt on a world map.
• Students will be able to identify the geographic locations of the Middle East and North Africa.
• Students will identify the Nile, Tigris, and Euphrates Rivers on a world map and explain why early civilizations developed in those areas.
• Students will compare and contrast human migration influenced by ancient river valleys.
• Students will examine Hammurabi’s code and its significance in the development of an organized government system.
• Students will put in correct sequential order the mummification process used in Ancient Egypt.
• Students will explore the details surrounding the murder of King Tut.

This resource includes both a PDF and a Word document (docx format) that can easily be modified for use in social studies, science, math, language arts, and various other subjects. You can save the game sheet in Word and reuse it throughout the year simply by changing the questions to match the specific content you are studying. Students will have fun while reviewing, keeping them engaged in the process.

While modifying this activity requires creating your own study questions, it can serve as a valuable resource for many years to come.
